Re:When to use t/c switch racing?

I can't help you out as far as when to use the TC lock-up when racing,,,,,,, But I can tell you that everything I have read concerning a TC lock-up switch, has been suggested for use in slowing down. Some folks use the switch to keep the TC locked when slowing and/or using an exhaust brake. Most folks even say they don't recommend it for that unless your tranny has had some modification done and line pressures increased. I think that the general consensus is never use when upshiftng due to the terrible stress you would be putting on the tranny by forcing it to shift while the TC is locked-up.
I'll almost guarantee that the majority of folks are going to tell you that your tranny is not going to live very long if you use the TC lock-up switch for very long.

Its not recomended with stock tranny. Even some after market trans companies frown on its use.

Well it is a fully built bd tranny. Lots of guys use them over by me. It only runs high 15s right now.

I ran a 14.7 with 36x14.5 tires, then switched over to some 31.5x12.5 slicks, and dropped a full second in the 1/4.

P.S. Picked up some cool factor too! ;D

$250 for each slick, and $145 each rim.

Re:When to use t/c switch racing?

The lockup switch only works after the tranny has gotten the torque converter locked up in OD.....the lockup switch then prevents the torque converter from unlocking from OD....this can be seen by having the switch on and coming to a stop your truck will act like a manual tranny coming to a stop without pushing in on the clutch

If your going to race you need a tranny built for that purpose...for firmer up shifting by modifying the valve body and more positive converter lockup

pappyman,

Perhaps that is the way you wired your mystery switch. Mine will lock up in second, third and of course overdrive if switched to do so.

Jambbii,

I have read that the BD torque converter like the one I have has high fluid coupling. So if you were to lock it up in second gear it wouldn't do much good. I do agree with pappyman on... Don't forget to switch it off! Before slowing down to turn off the track, as it will stay locked up.

I'd go and ask BD, since they know what they have done with your tranny. If the tranny is set up for locked shifts it's good- if not you will damage it. With the stock (or near stock) VB and electronics the lockup switch will lock the TC in 2nd, and do the upshifts to 3rd and OD locked up- then it will hold OD regardless of speed and throttle position.
