I beat the adding steering wheel radio controls to an '06 and later. If you didn't know already and were thinking of adding these to your '06 or later, you would go through the motions like any previous model as far back as '00, by adding the switches, harness and wire to the cluster. Then it wouldn't work. Luckily with the access I have, I didn't panic and went right to figureing (sp) it out. The Starscan showed it was connected and functioning, but just wasn't going any farther. The TIPM/GW wasn't allowing it because it was reading current vehicle configuration, which did not have RDZ (radio controls).

So, first thing was to tell Chrysler that the vehicle did have RDZ. This had to be done at a dealer or by someone you may know (cough, cough,me). Once that updates in the Chrysler system, then PRESTO (I like the word) it can be turned on. Seems simple enough. The actual procedure is done by the Starscan. The tech will now have to tell it that the TIPM needs to be re-configured. This simply contacts Chrysler to retrieve what software and options are to be allowed on the vehicle. Kind of like a restore point on a pc. Only this time when it pulls the info, there will be an extra code in the software.

Enjoy your radio switches. When I got out of my last truck, one of the last four all with these, and got the newest truck without, it just had to have them. After doing all the "stuff" involved to add them, and they not work, I wasn't going to let it beat me. It won some battles, but it didn't win the war.

No kidding! I was wanting that option myself and would have been rather irate if I had gone through the motions only to find it didnt work. Where did you get your wheel, harness and directions to make it happen. And if you dont mind me asking what did it cost you?

Thanks in advance!!

Thumbs up

What scent? Original green tree? J/K On '04 and later trucks, the wheels already have the room in the back panel so replacement is not necessary. I just broke out the Dremel and some cardboard to make stencils and cut out the holes. Of course your wheel will have to be off. The wiring is actually the harness for an '02 1500. Saves alot of money this way. You will just cut out the part of the harness you need. Then the switches themselves. Normally I would have taken pics and done a full write up, but it was REALLY cold when I was doing this the other night. Maybe I'll do a write up later as there were a few unexpected things that had to be done. Just won't have pics though.
