Upgraded trans cooler & trans filter question

Soon I will put my tranny back in with the triple disk converter and new flexplate. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket trans cooler (bigger) that is out there I can swap out before installing my transmission? If not, does it pay to remove the cooler and flush it / try to clean it? Does anyone have any experience with removing the cooler and getting it as clean as new? I am assuming not much would collect inside the cooler but I could be wrong. I did flush my fluid about 7K miles ago.

Also, I recently changed the filter but since I drained all the fluid and it looks a little maroon, I am going to change the filter. Before I bought the filter thru GENOs - does Autozone / Advance auto sell the same filter or level of quality of filter? Is there a brand that you guys recommend? Finally, I assume i should fill the torque converter before I install. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
Scott

As long as the trans did not self destruct (and spread trash to the cooler), you can back flush it to clean it out.

There are plenty of aftermarket sources for additional coolers. Some cheap, and some not so cheap. You'll get what you pay for.

If you buy a cheap one that uses rubber hose and hose clamps, it will always seep fluid. If you attach it directly to the radiater core with things that look like cable ties, it won't be very efficient. But they're cheap and easy.

Russel, Earls, and Mocal probably make the best plate style coolers. Small, light weight, sturdy, and very efficient.

I would use only AN type hose and fittings. A little more expensive, but they never fail.
