upgraded steering do you need the pitman arm?
for the upgraded steering setup do you need the pitman arm or can you just reuse the old one on your truck mine is a 03 thanks

Yes, you really do need the updated pitman arm, especially if you use the truck at all. If the front suspension articulates much at all, the old style will cause clearance issues and make contact...

Does it take anything to get that arm off and back on? Going to do my upgrade this weekend and hope its just a direct unbolt/bolt to get that pitman arm off/on.

Nah, Just unscrew the sector nut and it'll fall right off.
Well, mine took a pretty heavy pitman arm puller and some good wacks from a little sledge hammer and some bolt blaster... your results may vary!--Eric

Just got to know were to hit it, a few love taps when a puller is on it and it will fall off. Granted I spent about 5 minutes wacking at it, on TWO trucks to have my old man hit it about 3 times and both times it comes off 
They are on there pretty good, but a genaric puller and a hammer will take care of it....eventully.

I've heard many people report this, but when my dealership updated the steering setup they did not replace the pitman arm. I got under there and looked at it and immediately went to talk with the service writer before leaving the lot. They got 6 techs to climb on the front of my truck and bounce it to get the suspension to compress while I was under the truck and the stud never came close to the tie rod. It sure looks like it is going to, but it doesn't. I told them I was still concerned and the service writer told me if it ever made contact they would swap the pitman arm with no charge. I don't do any pleasure offroading but take the truck down some REALLY nasty paths getting to some of the oil rigs out here and, in the 10K miles since I've replaced the front parts, the pitman arm stud hasn't yet made contact with the tie rod.

With a suspension system that delivers increased travel, there will be contact made. The new pitman arm can be found for about $52, and takes less than an hour to put on. I'd keep an eye on it closely as you travel the rough roads for the first few times...
