Upgraded batteries to GRP31s.

Well one of my batteries was weak and last cold snap the truck wouldn't start sooooo upgrade time! I just cann't leave anything alone!

I get used grp31s for cheap so my last truck got upgraded so I decided to do this one as well. To make it fit I had to cut out the front edge of the tray(closest to the rad) from there it bolted right in. No other mods were needed. To cut the plastic I found it easiest to use a air powered cut off wheel. Took about 30min in total. On my old '92 CTD the truck would start at -30C not plugged in. This was after three cyles of running the grid heater and cranking. Haven't had a cold snap since I put them in the '01 hopefully it will work as well but I have noticed that the '01 doesn't seem to start as easily as the '92.

If you live in a really cold climate or need more reserve for running accessories you may want to check into it.

Cool! You got me thinking about doing this. If I understand correctly, we had GRP27's in our trucks from the factory (at least mine does). These are 12-1/16" X 6-13/16" X 8-7/8" in size and the GRP31's are 13" X 6-13/16" X 9-7/16" So they are 15/16" longer and 9/16" taller. Did you have any issues with the extra height?

Nope the hold down bolts were just long enough to get started. Been in a couple weeks now and everything seems good.

When I put larger batteries in my truck, they were taller and the hood was hitting them. Adjust the latch and the rubber stops, and all is well.
