upgrade ?????

A friend has a '07 6.7. He was questioning me about blocking a part of his intake manifold off; that recirculates the exhaust back through his engine. He was told that doing this increases his fuel mileage. Is there a kit to do this with or do you have to build something? And if he did this will it void his warranty. Also can he cut off his cat. converter?
