Updating Smarty Jr.

Ok guys, I'm about to try to update my Smarty Jr. software to the newest version. I had set it back to stock before taking it in for service and figured now would be the time to update before reinstalling in my truck. I had started to do this earlier and had done everything but hook up the smarty to the computer. Last night I downloaded the 5.10B software to my smarty file. The question I have now is that I have two .smt files (5.09 amd 5.10B) in this smarty folder, will this be a problem? or will I just have to point it to the one I want?

It will not be a problem. You will have to designate which .smt file you want just as you suggested. I keep all my updates in a separate folder (each containing the .7z & .smt) and have each folder named as the version and the release date.

No, I have multiple smarty files in one folder. When the prompt comes up and askes you which one you want to open, choose the file you want.

Like its already been said, just select the one you want to update.

I am pretty happy with 5.10B, it seems to have decrease the annoying timing rattle at lower rpms.

Don't be. Once you figure it out, it is very easy.

As well as the youtube vid, check out this link.

You have to extract it with 7zip. Look at the PDF. I did not watch the vid all the way, but if Bob posted it, I'm sure it's good. If you already have 7zip, just right click on it, and it should give you the option to extract.

That has been me. Scared to update it. I went as far as I could with the exception of downloading to the Jr. with 5.09 version . I have never claimed to be a computer guy. The problem for me is that I have two Smarty Jrs and know at some point I will need to do this, so why not now. I printed off a set of instructions a while back (can't remember where I got them). The problem with them is that the computer screens in the pictures are in a foreign language. I have seen the videos posted by Bob and those are nice to watch, but for me I need something in front of me that I can refer to as I go along the process. The posts in this thread alone, I think, show that there is a need for a set of instructions that are plain and simple.

Thanks for all of your help guys. Wish me luck as I'm about to try this.

OOps!! Disregard part of my last post. I still maintain that a PDF like the one above would be better if it were in all English.

That is good to hear. Anything else that I might notice going from 5.08 to 5.10B?

Believe it or not, it appears that I have successfully updated the software on my smarty Jr. Now to go install back on my truck!!!! If I can do this with my limited computer skills....... it is not that hard. Hope I didn't just jinx myself on trying to update my second Jr.

Is there anything I should be aware of prior to hooking up my other Jr. to the computer?
