When you say SM and DM do you mean two people who work at the dealership or is the DM a DC regional rep?

Just curious. Here in NJ I had to get a meeting with someone they called a regional rep to get my CP3 warranty honored. It was a hassle.

I will watch these CP3 threads with interest...
There are now two very reasonable theories about why they leak:

1. LP marginal causing low pressure at CP3 and starving it of fuel for lubrication.
2. ULSD causing rings to shrink and leak.

Either or both could be true. I hope to keep my new CP3 running leak free for a long time, and knowing why it fails could help. (btw FPG ordered... not sure how else to be pro-active)

Just because you're dealing with a dishonest individual that gives you the right to be dishonest too?

My Mama didn't bring me up that way.

I'd find a new dealer to take my business to, and report these guys to DC corporate at least, if not also to the Better Business Bureau. (of course, I'd be sure to let the service manager KNOW I was taping the conversation about turning over my personal property to him in order to get my warranty "reinstated").
Wouldn't want the evidence to be inadmissable when I took them to court.

I Am My Own Warranty Station

I just replaced a $341 APPS on my dime yesterday

Guys a little insite into the CP3's. Bosch designed them to work with ULSD and our highly polluting diesel we have in North America.

No they didn't and thats part of the problem. The Bosch HPCR systems were designed to work with diesel that has cetane ratings of 45 or higher and solids less than 3 microns in size. In other words, european diesel. Most of the diesel in the US does not meet these standards. This is raising havoc with the pumps, injectors, and other parts of the system that are sensitive. The advent of the ULSD is also raising questions of lubricity due to the refining needed to remove sulphur and the reduction of the aromatic content. While the viton seals are supposed to be relatively unaffected there is no data to back it up so it is a guessing game whether there will be problems.

I am not going to say whos right or wrong, but the model of CP3 we have on our trucks was designed for both fuel types.
The problem may lye in the filter itself not spe'cd properly. We have a 10mic absolute filter at 98.9% with a 5 micron at 87.8% abilitie. I guess Cummins is slowly incorperating a 5-7 mic absolute filter in the very near future. Problem with doing that is what about the previous customers with the early Third Gens. No one wants to cause a rush into this situation, to avoid a total recall.
Bosche rates a 2 micron absolute for their CP3's in Europe. Why we haven't in North America is beyond me. What I would like to see is the filter remain as it is with a 2 mic incorperated after it. This would be an easy fix for Cummins and Dodge to do. This would solve alot of headaches. Who only knows what will transpire in the very near future.
Fleet Guard is presently making and or already selling the 5-7 micron filters. Problem is they are all on back order... Or maybe not even made yet.

This is exactly why a rating for both fuels is meaningless and a total crock. They may be rated for the consistency of the fuels but the contamination from solids is not something that is easily designed around. That would require better, read that more expensive, materials to handle the harsher duty and that would drive the price quickly beyond what Bosch is able to make on manufacturing. The reality is the pumps and injectors are suffering from the fuel quality. Bosch knows it, Cummins knows, and so does DC. What you won't see is any one of these entities ever stating this as that would put one of our sacred cows directly in the spotlight and open a lititgation avenue that would never be closed.

As far as fuel filtration goes, thats another whole story with as many pitfalls as air filtration. There are gotchas that take $$$ to resolve and its all about the bottom line.
