Update on tranny

Hey guys just wanted to post up a little update on my status with my tranny issues...

Dealership called me about 5 mins ago to give me a little update. Gentlemen I spoke with said that there is in fact an issue with the tranny. I asked what it was and he said it was "internal" Buying this used this was a risk I took so I bought an extended warranty. He said there is good and bad news as well.. Good being that he is almost a 100% sure its covered by the warranty because its *mechanical* issue. He is not sure what they are going to authorize as far as OEM, or a remanned tranny. Bad new is if for some reason its not covered my truck is dead weight until I can save coin for a new upgraded one. I will go with a known and trusted source from other members success on this site. (ATS) local for me, or a goerend or something of that sorts..

Cost to me should only be 100 with everything done. If not I am going to have to fork out the cash for the diag which is like 150, and what ever else they did to it. sigh.. But since he did say it was mechanical I should be fine. I hear bad things about the OEM trannies VB solenoid? Would it be a good idea to have the guys put that in while the new or used tranny is installed? If I do get one that is..

Also was wondering if anyone here has had to use an extended warranty for a tranny or anything of the sorts.. if so what was your experience?

Thanks!

Jason

Lots of guys on here will tell you that an extended warranty is a waste of money. I bought one(Cornerstone brand) with my '06. after my last trans rebuild to the tune of $4600, while I was debating whether to sell the truck or not, I added up the $$ amount that had been warrantied during my ownership. Somewhere between $17k and $20k. All covered by the warranty, including 3 trans rebuilds. Cornerstone was good to work with, and I bought another one with the new truck. If there is someone out there who can turn my original purchase cost of $1200 into $17k in just over 5 years, I need to meet him, and invest some real money with him.

ahh... I forgot who I have.. the dealship is doing all the talking which is great. I look forward to tomorrow's update and see what they say. This is good info.. I dont think its a waste of money on a used vehicle, especially a used diesel at that. 1200 and almost 20k worth of work is well worth it!

Thanks!

Jason

Any others?

I have only bought one extended warranty because the truck was close to the 3/36k expiring. (Gasser truck) The tranny went out and it was covered 100%. The bottom end of the engine needed to be rebuilt and it was covered 100%. fuel pump went out and it was covered 100%
After it was all fixed (over about 1 year) I drove it for another 90k miles before trading it in on my current truck.

You got lucky then with those vehicles.. Not saying all used are bad apples but sometimes hey you get one that has a few issues.

But I think that is a fair fair price. 4k is what was quoted for tranny. I am going to save up for now for that VB upgrade and a TQ upgrade.. I hear those things will do these trannies wonders..

Just a quick fallow up... So the dealership was actually good to work with. (surprised). I have heard horror stories about others.. But anyway. I thought I would share my experience about the warrantied part. From drop off to pick up was 4 days. +1 They found my fuel filter was bad and replaced it along with a fuse. No labor cost for filter just parts. In total with warranty deductible I paid 228 out the door which is cheaper then what was originally quoted. Overall I am very pleased and super glad I got this warranty. Just thought I would share

That's great news!! Dealerships can be a nightmare but there are a few good ones that will actually give great service.

Not going to lie I was a bit put off because my Bro in Law just bought a used car from the same dealership and it was a lemon. But so far I am trying to drive at least 500 miles before I really give it some gas... They didn't say anything about a break in period. So I am unsure if I need to or no..

I bought an extended warrenty from CS Dodge. When I needed it, I discovered it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. I think we'll be fighting over this for a while.
