Unlocking Hubs

Unlocking Hubs
Guys, this is my first CTD and I was surprised to learn that the front axle and drive train is turning all the time. Has anyone installed unlocking hubs? My previous 4X4's all had manual locking hubs. I just think it would save wear and improve the fuel economy at the same time when on the highway. Any comments?

my dyna-trac set up sticks out exactly two inches form the center cap. i cut the centers out of the cap and just re-installed them. i installed the dyna-tracs when i replaced the entire front end. i picked up a 1.5 mpg increase with the dyna trac set up!

I would also take issue with how much "wear and tear" free hubs actually prevent. It would make sense that spining the front drivetrain must put a lot of wear and tear on it but I haven't seen that. Since the front is rarely under power the amount of stress on it is negligable. The system is designed to spin and one could easily argue that moving the parts keeps out moisture and therefore damaging rust. I've run several 4x4's with and without locking hubs and the Dodge set-up actually is pretty darn trouble free and fairly strong. Besides, it's really nice to have 4wd available without getting out of the truck and locking the darn hubs
