unhappy with dodge and dealer...help!
about 2 months ago i bought a 97 2500 ctd, the cummins is making me smile from ear to ear, but the factory dodge parts are making me very unhappy! since i bought it the CD player broke, my abs light came on, my transmission took two dumps on the highway, my 4wd stopped working, and the fuel gauge stopped working....and i dont know what to do....
The truck came with a 30 day warranty from the dealer and i got a 24k mile warranty on top of that. Its obviously past the 30 days....but should I take it back to the dealer and show them what they sold me, or should I let the 24k mile warranty I bought take care of it?? I really want to take it to the dealer and tell them to fix the CD player, and gauge
anyways this is getting long....but like i said, i'm happy witht the truck over all, im just ****** cause i feel like I'm being cheated by the dealer if i dont tell them what's happeneing with what they sold me
any help would be awesome!!

Honestly man it's the downside of buying a used vehicle. And to tell you the truth I can guarantee when you take it back in they wont honor your warranty when it comes to fixing certain things. Those extended warranty deals are a joke on used trucks, usually NOTHING is covered under that warranty.......I've found that out before!!

What does your warranty say?

I bought an extended warranty on my 99 1/2 ton that was for drivetrain......and a couple days after I bought it I found out it needed a new T-case and they wouldn't honor my warranty because they said it was a pre-existing condition. I had to fight for two weeks to finally get them to pay for it.

seemed like alot of things went wrong with mine at around 110K.
The 4WD thing is usually a vacum leak.
The fuel gauge is probably the float pivot or an electrical connection.
The abs light is usually a wheel speed sensor.

I would still take it back to the dealer and let them know what a POS it has been. The CD player and the ABS are not that uncommon, but they should be given some grief over the tranny and 4WD problems.

Not sure how "perfect" a 10 year old used truck with over 80K is supposed to be. Make a list and start at the most important issues and start fixin! .....and too me it sounds like most of your "anger" should most likely be with the guy who stopped at the dealer to "unload" his old worn out truck, but you must have had a pretty good idea of what you were getting into. Funny thing is in 15+ years of working on this stuff I've probably had only five guys come into a shop to "discuss" a used vehicle they were looking at elsewhere and bring it in for an inspection. Of couse that's not saying that all those issues wouldn't have been present at the time of inspection, but it's often a good idea to have an objective set of eyes check over a used vehicle.
