Understanding my MP8 and how to 500hp
Hey guys. Merry Xmas!
I have done some reading in the archives about the MP-8.
I had it stacked with my Edge but have found the following:
Edge Level 5 for daily driving, and MP-8 upto 30-40% SOMETIMES only for low end throttle response and a few 1/4 passes this way.
I may have turned the mp-8 up higher with the edge on level 5 a couple of times just to try it, but never did full blown passes with it. Truck would surge and go slower. No fuel system mods.
For the Last year or more I have been driving around with the Edge on 3 and sometimes on 5, but left the MP8 pretty much off.
Truck always ran good. A couple of times I had some rough starts and rough idle, but it really happened after 1 fill up and went away as I gradually went through a couple of tanks of diesel. Otherwise truck runs fine as far as I can tell.
I have sold my Edge... I now only have the mp-8.
What is the safe use of this product with my current mods (afe stage 2, rokk sensor, and some trans mods)? Do not use it past 50%? How much power will that give me?
I want to get Smarty Revo or TNT, and a second lift pump.
I read about rail pressure gagues, where do I get one and how do I tap into the rail pressure?
What would it take to get my truck upto 500hp and how much torque can I expect to make? HP is not my main goal. Lots of low end and midrange power is what I really want. But I do want overall the truck to be quick.
Thanks,
Igor.

The MP-8 used with duration will suck down your fuel pressure quick. Thats why you noticed it went slower when you cranked it up. MP-8 with the Smarty will defiantly make 500+hp but you will need a lift pump.
The rail pressure gauge piggy backs into the engine harness and reads off the factory sensor. You do not have to add an additional sensor or drill/tap holes in your fuel rail.

Thank you.
So a gauge like this?
http://www.dieselmanor.com/dipricol/..._railpress.asp
I think the best start for me is to get the fuel system upgraded, then go with a rail pressure gauge (if I am going to use the mp8 at all) and smarty.
This should give me more power then I had with the edge/mp8 and stock pump.
After that, repair/upgrade parts as necessary.
Now what lift pump do I go with...back to search, lol. Any suggestions?

I went with the Glacier Diesel kit as it was an easy unit to install and also had the 2micron filter kit.. I think filtering and pressure are both important to keep our trucks running for the long term.

I assembled a ripoff of the GDP pump. I got a walbro 392 and got all the fittings and check valves from Graingers. If I had it to do over again I would get the airdog. They look real good for the price. I think they also have a lifetime warranty. I could be wrong though.

I spent the last 2h looking up what lift pump to get and am more confused and tired then anything.
*** does a guy get? I want a pump that will support 500-550hp and drive daily w/o problems. I do NOT want low fuel issues. I drive far, and sometimes, get screwed and get below 1/4 tank before I fill up. My bed is usually so full I have NO room for a gas can.
What do I get? I like the look of the AirDog, but, am running into 1/4 tank issues ppl. report with that, and, some Liberty Can mod, etc.
I just want to buy a system that works. I am further from figuring it out then closer at this point.
My stock 05 pump has no problems OR low fuel issues right now....

I would use an aftermarket inline filter head and mount it to the frame under the driver seat. Use at least 5 mic filters. Just use a HD relay triggered by the factory pump wiring.

Take my stock 05 pump out of the tank and put a bypass hose in there?
OR, leave both pumps (stock and inline)?
Thanks

Put the walbro inline and leave the stock pump in the tank, keep in mind, I'm telling you this as I understand your only shooting for 550hp or so, I wouldn't do this on a high HP rig.

Would I need a fuel pressure regulator? Do I need a T with a check valve to tap into the return, or, not on my 05?
Thanks a LOT for your help.
550hp is all this truck is ever going to see without a lot more mods.
Even still, this is simple enough that its OK to do it twice if I ever exceed that power level.

i would get the Airdog100 cause it just hooks up to youre factory draw straw, and then the return fuel tapps into youre filler neck hose and runs into youre tank....good product plus they are running a sell on them right now...good luck

Got the Airdog 100 and am 100% satisfied. No more low fuel pressure. I like this setup because it is well thought out with complete air and water filtration/separation, comes as a complete kit, and easy instructions. There is an issue with the drawstraw, if you get the 150 it is best you take the bed off and install the drawstraw with the tank in place. If you cut the drawstraw long enough you won't have any issues from what I've read.
but from what i gather you won't need anything more than an Airdog 100 or the GDP kit. Simple install.
