Under coat question

Under coat question
I've noticed on a few local 01-02 light color trucks the underside of the cab is black and the bed is body color? Is this how they all are from the factory. Also does anyone have plastic plugs in the backside of their cab corners? I am thinking these trucks must have been under coated at the dealer when new or something along those lines.

My truck had those rubber plugs in the stock Cab Corners, however my truck was never undercoated from factory that I can remember.
Are you talking about the trucks are like a two tone, black along the bottom, then the colour on top of that? If so it might be that they got it done themselves. 2nd gens aren't known for their bodies when it comes to road salt, etc....

My truck was a bottom of the line fleet truck that someone didn't want and white all over, except for the box sprayed in black liner that I had done and of course the undercoating.

Nope I am talking about physically under the truck (the floor pan) on these trucks was a black sprayed on substance that looked the age of the vehicle like undercoat. I thought maybe it was something from the factory I've just never seen on dark color trucks.

I wouldnt trust that rubberized black stuff. It makes it easier for the rust to hide once it creeps in from the edge of the treatment somewhere.
I like just spraying the underside down with zinc primer or cold galvanizing compound and cover with paraffin spray.
I did the cab with cold galvanizing paint in the spring (just heavy zinc content with a paint base) and I havent had any rust come back yet. Also soaked the inside of my new rockers and cab corners with it.
