UH OH! Something gone very wrong...kdp?

Well I thought it was my turbo that seized and stopped my engine from running....I hooked my charger up to the truck this morning and it started to crank than I heard something lock, immediately trying to crank again was difficult for the battery. Turbo is disconnected from intercooler as well. Im going to continue charging the battery and see if it will try turning but I fear the worst.....

Could this be what I think it is? I sure hope not...EDIT

It seems strange how it slowly became a bad problem, which is what lead me to the turbo, I swore I even heard noises from the turbo off boost, when it was getting boost the noise went away....but now with everything disconnected and free, the turbo looks good and something sounds like its seized.

If you can spin the turbo's wheel by hand it aint siezed. If your batterys weak it could be causing the starter soleiniod(sp) making a clicking noise.

P.S. A little loose motion up/down on the turbo wheel is fine but if the wheel is hitting the turbo housing you may be replacing the oil seals soon.

can you take a breaker bar and a socket on the dampner bolts and rotate the motor?

the 93 did the same thing, it would turn over and make like an abrupt nasty sound, turned out the battery was too dead

Ditto on my 89. Like, almost machine gun fire from the solenoid engaging and disengaging I was guessing. If he battery is really bad, the charger won't rectify it either. I hooked up another truck's battery and it was good to go.

Well I found out what it was. Turbo is fine, its definitely not the Dowel Pin, nothing internally is stopping it from cranking over fast enough to start. On my inspection of the oil in the bottom of the pan I noticed a bunch of aluminum filings underneath the tranny laying on the ground. Sure enough I took the service cap of the bottom to expose the flywheel and a pile of aluminum filings fell out as well is a couple chunks of steel. I have pictures but have figured out how to post pictures yet.

At least the flywheel is cheap though....its just finding a good shop who will do it cheap and fast....LOL Tempted to buy a good convertor and throw it in while its apart

Good excuse for a better 2nd gen flexplate and a tight torque converter

Same thing i said in another thread tonight....LOL

But yea don't buy a stock 1st gen flexplate, a 2nd gen flexplate is like $120 and is much stronger

Ha... thought I read that somewhere else tonight

I was gonna say the flexplate (not flywheel) is pretty cheap, and not too too hard to install I think.

My thoughts exactly, I think I will opt for a second gen "flexplate" when I get it taken to a shop. I wish I was back home, this normally would have only cost me time and a case of beer.....
