U.S. Marine First Diesel

Good evening all

I am a U.S. Marine just returning from Japan and had the wonderfull opportunity to buy my first Cummins. A frend (COUNTRYBOY) got me hooked on the cummins before I left for Japan. I am looking for any advice on low cost upgrades but for well worth the money. Thank you all and be safe.

Welcome, and Thanks for your Service!

Best up-grades are intake and exhaust; you can do these without worrying about the durability of your truck. Don't do anything else until you get some gauges - egt, boost, and fuel pressure.

Fill out your signature with what you have so far and you'll get lots of advice.

Welcome home.

Welcome!

Generally intake and exhaust are effective mods. On the intake, doesn't have to be some super expensive kit either. The mods to the stock airbox are said to work very well.

For the rest of the truck, and specific go fast parts, it'll depend on which model/year you get. Any idea which truck you'll look for?

We came back from Japan and I bought a Cummins. Must be in the water

Hey there Levi. Thanks for serving our nation. I am glad you are back and are able to do something fun with your new truck.

Levi, you are in the right place to read a lot and educate yourself about your truck, and ask questions when you need to. One free and cool (to me anyway) thing you can do is take your silencer ring out. It doesn't affect performance, but it makes a good sound. - - - - - - --- One of the best pieces of advice another member gave me (homewrecker) was to be sure where you want to be when most of your mods are done. This can save you spending money on something that is taking you in the wrong direction. - - - - -Everyone doesn't have sames likes, dislikes, or goals. For example, I always want my truck to be able to do (and do it well) what it was designed for, which is to tow. I also dislike lag. So I got a good towing turbo and just got Flux 1's. Anyway, I ended up with a great tow vehicle, EGT's are good, and had 450hp and 900tq last time it was on a mustang dyno. Not going to win any dyno wars, but my truck is in line with what I want out of it. I may eventually get twins and will be able to use the turbo I have now. A good thread to read, would be the one about ? Mods I regret ? or something like that. Good luck and keep us up to date with your mods.

First of all SEMPER FI Marine!!! Congrats on the diesel. I've had a Ford and now an 06 Mega Cab. Loved the Ford, but the Cummis is much nicer to tow with.

As for upgrades Exhaust and intake are always a good place to start.

I got a 2005 Dodge 2500 4 door, shortbed, 4X4, Auto trany. The exhaust has the muffler and can still on it but has a 5" tip. Sounds good but I want it to sound better. I have a sound coming from the center of the radiator area. Sounds like rocks in a tin can. Some say the water pump bariongs or some say the fan hub. My truck only has 60,000 miles. Will Dodge stile cover the truck???? Thanks to every one and I am dam sure glad to be back in the good old USA.
