Turn O/D on or off when racing?

When I am racing from either off a roll or from a line, should the TOW/HAUL light be on or off for best times?

That's a good question.... I'd like to know the answer also. Anybody out there run back to back with tow/haul on then off and notice a difference???

Leave it off, the same with turning the OD off, youll run better that way.

With it on it takes to long for it to shift to O/D.

I dont know if its the same between years but when I had my 99 I would leave the OD in off so I could take it further up in the rpm band.

Also some people had problems with the shifting into OD was slow so they would rig up a switch to preload the OD shift so it shifted harder even though they already had a lock up switch.

Pretty interesting stuff on the 2nd gens, dont know if it applies here

just to make sure, when you guys say OFF, you mean the light is ON and vice sersa?

so:

O/D OFF= TOW/HAUL light ON
O/D ON= TOW/HAUL Light OFF

????

I always obviously drive normal with the light off, but when I race I then press the TOW/HAUL mode button which then turns the light on, which means O/D OFF?

do you drive it noramlly with the light on?? Leave your over drive on so it can shift through the gears, and leave the tow haul off cuz your not towing a trailers.

Only the guys with 05's are gonna have the same answer here as ours is the only year, I believe, where pressing the tow/haul button doesn't lock out overdrive...
I'd have to listen to Luken since his truck is so darn nasty...

No difference people. tried it at the track before. no difference.

Viking, Not necessarily. On your 05 even with tow/haul turned ON the OD still engages

well, from my understanding and from what i have been told from a reputable source - TOW/HAUL locks up the tc in 3rd and again in 4th, where as when you are dont have the light on, the tc only locks up in 4th. I can feel its "thicker" when I roll into the throttle when I have the TOW/HAUL activated. I have also been told thats how to do a truck pull from now on, let her get into 3rd with TOW/HAUL activated = then give it hell.

There is a difference. Maybe if your truck doesn't need to get into overdrive till the end of the track it doesn't make a difference. My truck goes into OD way before the end of the track and having it in tow haul mode makes it delay the OD shift (at least on my truck).

It's now setup where I have a lockup switch to lock the TC, plus I have a 3 way switch to control OD. I can 1. Leave it stock 2. Manually shift it to OD 3. Lock overdrive out.

That is correct. But I lose more time waiting on it to shift to OD than I gain by it locking up in 3rd.

I give it hell long before it gets locked up in 3rd. By that time you need to have serious ground speed going on...

To be honest I don't remember. Its been over 3 months since I've raced it. I think its around 3000. I might be wrong tho. When I leave work today I'll take it to 106 and see what the rpm's are.

I was planning on going to the track this weekend with the Smarty but I have to take my girlfriend to Columbia to watch her friends play in the state softball championship game
