Turbo Suggestions.....

For the truck in my sig, I will be saving up for a new turbo in a few months.

I do not want twins, just a better performing turbo that will drop right in. I also just bought an ATS 2pc Pulse Flow exhaust manifold, that will be used/installed at the same time I put a new turbo in the truck.

I will also have an AD 150 installed, by the time the turbo get purchased.

I have seen that some buy an 04.5-07 turbo and see very nice performance increases. However, I really do not want to mess with the 04.5 and newer elbow, since my 5" turbo back exhaust is welded up to the stock elbow and would rather leave it in place.

I will not be sled pulling or doing anything competition related. I would like to keep the overall 'feel' of the stock turbo, but be able to flow more with more PSI.

With my stock turbo, I can hit 35-37 PSI, with the adjustable boost elbow. At about 26 PSI and higher, the noise of the turbo really changes tone and sounds like it is way out of it efficiency range.

Are these the correct specs on my HE341:

HE341: 54MM Compressor
HE341: 9 CM Exhaust Housing
HE341: 58MM Inducer

My major concerns are (not in any special order):
-Spooling/Lag time
-EGTs
-Being 110% bolt-on

So, what should I look for?? THANKS!

Is your truck an auto or manual. Makes a difference when selecting a turbo. A 62 compressor will probably be your best option. Either an HTT62/71/13ss or a HTT64/65/13ss.

So with these numbers, which is what? Compressor, Exhaust Housing, Inducer?

Would the HE341 be a 54/58/9 or a 58/54/9?

What about the BD Super B Single?

Does anyone know the full specs on it, here is what I have only been able to find:
Super B: 57 mm compressor
Super B: Exhaust is about ~14 cm

Ok, first lets get the terminology correct. "Inducer" is a term that applies to the leading edge of a wheel both exhaust (turbine) and intake (compressor). In other words a compressor wheel might have an inducer size of 60mm and an exducer size of 75mm. (the relationship of these numbers is also the "trim" of a turbo).

So when someone on here says it's a 64/71/13, it means that the inducer side of the compressor wheel is 64mm, the inducer side of the turbine wheel is 71mm and the exhaust housing is 13cm squared (the exhaust housing size is also referred to as the A/R or aspect ratio).

The Super B is a great entry level turbo. It is a step up from the stock one, that is going to support a modest increase in power. The throttle response is excellent. Dont let the size of the compressor wheel fool you. It will move 850cfm worth of air. That is the important number.

That's not the only important number!!! If the inducer side of the compressor wheel is only 57mm and it flows 850cfm, then it has a very large trim. This makes a great turbo to a point. I ran the A3k turbo for a while and it is a similar turbo, but as soon as I added injectors to my truck, I had a terrible surging problem while towing. I steep trim turbo will have a tendency to surge. I'm not saying the super b isn't a good turbo, but everyone on here seems to only make their decision based on compressor inducer size and exhaust housing size and there is way more to it than that if you want the correct turbo for a particular application.

I definately agree on that compressor and exhaust numbers not being the right things to base a turbo purchase off of. Turbos are actually fairly complex in their makeups. Surge is definately a big problem and can limit what you can do with a turbo. You just see everybody looking for a 62-14 or a 62-12 blah blah blah.....

I ran a Super b with DDP 50's and towed 12k with no surging, no temp issues and Dynoed 460hp with it. The super b is great...great spool, great driving manners, good top end. It will be a good fit for D45 mods and still be able to grow some. Then it will grow to the twins if he chooses to. BD..... Good Post Pat

If it were me I would look at a few

This is the order from fastest spool to slowest in this lineup. I have the 62/71-13ss and it is right at home with what i have, spoolup is great, but for you I would keep with a 65mm turbine.

Super B
HTT 62/65-13ss
HTT 64/65-13ss
HTT 62/71-13ss

x2 thats what I would choose and then there is a little room to grow later on if he decides to get injectors or some more fuel . those turbos are still very usuable/drivable
