turbo size advice

I popped the head gasket on my truck. I am installing arp head studs on the truck now and and a good gasket. I am also going to put on a bigger turbo and down pipe on the truck. I would like to know what size turbo I should install on it. This truck is my daily driver. i do not tow that often with the truck. I would like some input as to what would be a good all around turbo to install on it. You can tell by my sig what I have done to the truck allready. Any advise would be a great help. Thank you for your time Garry

With those mods, you just need to figure out how much power you want. From my limited knowledge I'd say single turbo setups go from an HX-35/40 Hybrid, S300 or Super B, Turbonetics 15181, PhatShaft 62, HTT 64/65/13ss, on up. Most of the above are good for 300-500HP. The Hybrid is the cheapest and from what I can tell, you'll want a bigger one pretty soon after that. The rest can be used in a twins setup so you don't have to start all over again when you upgrade. Just depends on how much money you want to shovel out....

I'd say a 62/65/14 or if you are thinkng twins in the future and want something easier on the budget now pick up a he351 it's a 60/60/9 and bore out the wastegate to jst over an inch. Guys have ran those on a vp with 150's and seen upwards of 460hp while dp is still in check ( barely over a 1:1 ratio)

I am not concerned about what the cost is. I want the truck reliable and hold together. I am not going to mod it anymore after these upgrades the truck is to a point that I am happy with it. It has enough power for what i use it for. Thanks for the input so far keep them coming every little bit of info helps. Thanks Garry

Probably something like a BD Super B would be very nice, very fast spooling and good to 400-450 hp.

I just got the HTT 64/65/13ss and I have nothing but good things to say about it. EGT's are much lower then my HX40 and I am running it set to make less boost right now.

head studs on the way

What pressure are you running on that? It seems that that particular turbo is a great way to go....

As far as a turbo for you, Diesel Demon, I think you could get a HX-35/40 hybrid and that would be the best way to go. You can get that for about $1200. Fast spooling like the HY but with a stronger shaft than the HX-40...

I found a great price on a Super B with downpipe and shipping. I haven't bought anything from them:

Who makes the 120hp sticks? I suggest a garrett GT3782R, I run that turbo for nearly 100000miles, with that sized sticks. I peak around 46psi of boost and egt's around 1200-1300 deg's. Depending on what sticks your running, you'll need a bigger turbine housing/disk. You tow, how heavy?

Keep an eye on the classifieds on here too. Seem to be alot of tubo,s in there lately.

Havent heard of that site, but 1,150 is a good price for a Super B.

You can get the S362 without a wastegate for less than $1000cdn. The trouble is that your paying one to two middle guys for a borg warner turbo. You can save money if you buy directly from borg warner. I paid around $900 cdn for a S366/0.91 T-4 turbo. I would run the S362/71 turbo if you do any towing. What's you tranny stall at? If you have a higher stall converter, you could go with a bigger turbo. I run a 1800rpm stall in my truck, it helps the spool-ups quite abit.

64/65/14 is 64 compressor inducer size (mm), 65 turbine wheel exducer (mm) and housing size 14 (cm)

65mm turbine disk, will run hotter than a 71mm turbine disk, if you have the fuel

The 64mm compressor inducer will flow around 70lbs/min, the 62mm is around 60lbs/min
