Question Turbo Air Guide [tag]???

Does anyone run a TAG?? Its being sold at Black Cloud and they say it improves air flow into the turbo. Comments, good or bad?

I've had a TAG since installing my Cool Blue Hose 18 months ago. Since the stock tube had stuff in it to guide air, it was only logical to me that the TAG would do the same, and by design, it would do it better. I thought about it and actually it puts the same aerodynamics across the turbo blades equally, so the air load won't load the bearing unequally.

Same principle as is used in jet turbines for load. If anything comes out of it's use, might be turbo bearing life, or at least that's how I was it.

Also, it helps to quiet down the turbo whistle a little. When you go to a more open air filter system like a BHAF, or as in my case the Ice Box, the turbo whistle can be annoying on long trips. It is certainly still there, just moderated a little. I like hearing the turbo whistle, but many times my passengers bring up a few questions about it's sound. I tell them it's just a normal diesel and they shut up.

It did lower my EGT's, also saw a little fuel mileage gain. When I did the TAG, at that time I did the Cool Hose, Cool Power mod to the stock air box, and the Amsoil drop in nano filter. I have recently made some changes - did the Ice Box Intake with the Amsoil 4091 nano and Outerwears pre-filter, the GDP Intake Horn and the ME pipe. My TOTAL EGT changes are now 200* + over where I started, and my mpg's are 19-20 empty, 14-15 towing 12K. Prices for all this stuff are either on their websites or their phone numbers are there, give them a call.

Thanks for the info, I plan on buying a Silverline turbo back this week and then do the upgrades to the air box. Not sure if i am going to do a air box or modify the stock and put in either the Amsoil filter or AFE.

Tags have been discussed many times over a long period on several forums. Most throw them in the same class as a tornado or other such gimmicks.Never have read about any increased dyno numbers or fuel mpg increases and in fact thought I've read about slight DECREASES in h.p. There have been such rumors as they help improve in areas that just don't show up on a dyno or may increase turbo bearing life or may just do nothing

Just to clarify, the factory plastic straight intake tube has black baffles inside to acoustically dampen engine noise. IMO, they're optional.

The factory 90* rubber elbow mounted to the compressor housing has curved white plastic vanes inside to help prevent airflow separation around the short-side radius. IMO, they tangibly benefit boost production.

The snap-in silencer rings (the 6.7s have a different mounting scheme which makes them a PITA to remove) are designed to reduce compressor whine. IMO, they're optional.

Aftermarket TAGs - whether screens, grids or vanes - can be helpful... might not want to use a pair on twins!

I think Tornados are just as important as muffler bearings, high-beam U-joints, synthetic blinker fluid or a quality flux capacitor - assuming it's a model in the gigawatt range.

I run a TAG in my secondary turbo... I mainly keep it in there for reduced noise! Man those things can get loud towing, the TAG really keeps the noise in check.

Most industrial equipment run TAG like things in order to straighten airflow before entering the turbine in order to reduce turbulent air... So couldn't hurt in my opinion
