TST Plate - 3K GSK Which or both?

Hello All, this is one of my first posts here.

I am very soon going to take delivery of my Cummins conversion. It is a 97 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 Long bed and has a 98 12V Cummins mated to a NV5600 tranny (out of a 2001 HO) with 3.55 rear end gears. It will have a 3.5" non cat exhaust with no muffler. I want to drive it stock for a little while and then turn up the power, just so I can appreciate the improvement. The two mods I am considering are a TST cam plate and/or a Piers 3K Governor Spring Kit. The truck has a pyro and boost gague. I will also add an AFE air intake upon delivery.

Now the questions:
1. Will I keep safe EGT's with a TST#11 (280/680)plate?

2. Will a stock clutch take the #11 TST plate?

3. Assuming I can keep my foot out of it, what will the two mods do to my mileage?

4. Which would you do first: Plate or GSK? BOTH?

Thanks
Big Jimbo

I would do both but expect that the clutch will not live, I have also gone with a set of Don M's Mach 3 EDM injectors and 191 DV's. I have not been able to Dyno with this set up but eseimate about 350 HP and yes the EGT's get hot but can be some what controled.

Plan on some kinda air upgrade like a AFE Mega Cannon or Scotty II, although I don't know if you could make the Scotty II work in a Phurd.

Sorry that was irresistable

If Dodge made a full-size crew cab, I wouldn't need to go the conversion route. I have 4 children and I NEED the room. I had a 2000 Powerstroke that I had nothing but injector problems with and vowed that I'd never own another diesel that used HP oil to fire it's injectors. I actually wanted a Cummins when I originally went truck shopping in 1999 and sat in a Dodge Quad Cab and at 6'6" there was 1" of leg room in the rear seat. My next stop was the Phurd dealer and there was 1" of room from my knee to the back of the drivers seat with me sitting in the rear seat with the drivers seat adjusted for me. That set the hook. So I ordered one and I can say that was one of the worst decisions I ever made. The truck/chassis was great....nothing but problems from the engine.

I plan to make sure the CTD can breathe with an AFE filter system. I am not sure if it may be more prudent to just get a #12 230/605 TST plate and a 3K GSK kit....280/680 sure sounds more fun. ;D

I hope no offense was taken in my post, it was sheer joking. I appologize if I offended you. I'll give you the the fact that Dodge doesn't make a true CREW cab I wish they did, I'd have one myself for when I have a family someday.( )

I'm sure you can come up with some form of cold air induction to work on your Ford/Cummins truck. Try contacting DTR member Maddog he has the same conversion and is running twins.

As far as your clutch issues I'd plan on a SBC clutch soon after a plate especially if your towing. The GSK however can be added stock and you can slide you OEM fuel plate full fwd. for a 40HP kick in the butt! ;D Trust me that's what I started with BOMBing on my truck and it woke my 97 up!

Re:TST Plate - 3K GSK Which or both?

I started out with the #11 plate in the stock position and the AFC housing spring kit along with all gauges. I couldn't help but later to move the plate all the way forward. ;D What I thought might happen did, new clutch From TST. When I first installed the plate my milage did finally increase after the new wore off of all that extra power ;D ;D. Make sure you get the boost elbo with that plate. I added 3000 gvs later which made a real nice addition for running down the interstate.Last but not least do not forget about the KDP , It bit me :'( :'( Hope this helps.

Re:TST Plate - 3K GSK Which or both?

First off cool conversion, Next since you will be using a TST plate, why not talk to Mark at TST. He is the man, he made them and he is the one who knows. I myself would do the plate (which ever one TST recomenmed), drive it and see what it helped, and even what it hurt. Mark will probaly tell you to stay away from the 3K GSK, I would to, for now anyway. Next on my list would new a better intake air system, there are several to choise from, all are good. See how that goes and then talk about other things. Good luck
