tst issues

alright here it goes another question about the tst stack. i have ran this setup since smarty has came out and all the sudden i take off from a stop light and the motor starts timming rattle like crazzy. pull over turn off restart and nothing but alot of rattle, baby home take off smarty and jump the tst and all is well hook tst back in and rattle city. put smarty bak on this tame with timing and tst out and runs fine hooked up tst rattle. i am lost i know here we have had a good string of days in the mid to high 90 degree temps. so don't know if it got hot on me and went nuts or what. i have ran the truck for the last three days with it jumped out with no troubles. so has ayone else had this happen?

thats the way ive ran mine lately. same settings, I havent had time to really try other stuff. Im getting lots of codes lately. I dont really know. I thought alot of the timing rattle was more from the smarty personally. members have asked about it before and they said not to worry about it so I dont. mine rattles like crazy when there is that delay before my turbo spools it rattles bad

my tst box has changed its settings a couple of times since it has gotten hot this summer.. I would check the timing settings to make sure they are where you left them. If it were set to auto and 12* and set itself to SET @ 12* you would get the timing rattle mine did it to me once and the cool down timer has changed as well as hp tq settings but only on days where temp and heat index were above 105* so it only gave me fits for about 2 weeks thank goodness.

I hope this helps.

i was hoping it was just the heat so i quit using it for a few days then hooked it up this mourning its only 60 degrees here. but it is still throughing the timming way out even on there all by itself. i have done the tone ring a long time ago and turned back to stock when i bought the smarty now i can't remember if counter clockwise put it back to stock or advanced it further. but ieher way it has ran great for almost a year now, i'm lost

A couple of TSTs have been know to do their own thing. See if the timing selection is not on set and cranked up. If it changes from auto to set, it'll rattle really bad as soon as you touch the throttle.

You mean the R-49? If you have that, you are able to adjust things. Press the center button once, then press the up button. This will take you into a different set of options. From there use the center button again. The first thing that shows up when you press the up button is Rail pressure. I think the second option is pressure settings, then high boost, high temp, timing degrees, timing set (auto or set). When you get to that function, It'll have an A or S on the bottom screen. Use the arrows to select. Once that is done, press the center button until it says done. Then press down to go to the mail screen.

Mine has reset the Timing setting from Auto to SET a few times now, last one was this morning. This will definitely cause rattle that sounds like the engine is about to nuke.

The first time I went to the dealer and finally to my performance shop before we found what had happened.

Chrleb1 is correct on how to get to the upper options menu. Let us know if you need more help resetting it.

mine is not like that at all i push the grey button once and it contrles the torque, push it again and i get a menu that E=economy,3=early aggresive twins,5=late twin,1=standard tst. then push the grey button again and it is the boost menu 0=off,1=on set at 30 psi push the grey button againand it brings you back to the beginning showing you what power and torque setting you are in. my controler does not have the boost or egt on it, i heard after 1100 egt the gauge is not at all accurate and the same for boost after 45 so i just use mechanical gauges. (would doing this make the truck start blowing more white smoke than black)i just through this in there because i can't seem to get any answer on my other thread that this is in

Well I don't think I can help much, have not seen that TST box version. It sounds like the TST box has a problem. Unless you have a TST jumper plug to remove it, probably the best thing is to remove the TST completely and see what happens.
