TST Fuel Stop Plate

on my 97 ctd i just installed gauges and i slid the fuel plate all the way forward i am now fixing to buy a tst fuel plate and i wanted to know what is the biggest plate i can go with and not hurt my auto trany?? i was thinking the #6 plate which is 250hp and 635lb-ft...

With a stock auto i wouldnt do too much without an upgraded tranny. where you are at is probably getting pretty close. Instead save the bucks and build the tranny first then look to pushing a plate around when you do it pick up a #10.

Honestly the Hp chart doesnt mean much.

I was talked out of my number 5 that i had and convinced to install a #10 slid 2/3-3/4 forward with 3k gov springs. Awsome torque curve excellent control of EGT's better mileage and smoother power engagement. IMHO there is no other plate for any of the pumps after being shown this plate's true potential. The plates profile is a half moon no ridges or mountains, tumbles or falls the Fueling curve is smooth because of this half moon shape instead of intermittent and violent like my 5 which went from mild fueling to wild fueling about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle under load which ment you had to back out of it with a trailer.

BTW Piers and TST both told me i wouldnt get very good numbers out of the plate and gov spring combo. Jim Fulmer and Rick Both talked me through it and into it and i am a believer and an advocate of a #10 irregardless of the pump the power speaks for itself when i am pulling a hill with a trailer.

I'm a believer in the #10 in both an auto(especially stock) as well as a stick, the #10's later fuel curve is more fiendly with a stock auto as the big fuel curve is a little later when the tranny has some pump speed.

thank you for the info, i will get that #10, but i'm new to this one, my truck red lines and 3000 so if i get that 3k gov springs my truck will rev over 3000? is that bad for the engine or what?

NO! I dont turn mine over 3k when I am shifting. But I do use the benefits of the springs when pulling our trailer. Instead of defueling setting in at 24-2600 it will give you full fuel to 3k before it starts. With the stock 30 lbs springs and the 3k GSK you will be fine. Now if you were to install the 4k kit...you will need to replace the valve springs with 60lb springs. When I bought the kit...I bought the 4k kit and when I did the install I left the baby spring out.
I knew if I put the baby spring in and I happen to be be getting on it real hard to get ahead of a rice rocket I might forget to watch the rpms. I didnt want to float any valves so I left it out until I do the 60lb springs then I will do the baby spring.
As far as hurting you truck....no...but as far as helping your truck....YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sliding it forward doesnt rob you of mileage as long as everything else is in tune so that you are using/ burning all the fuel cleanly. if you have a clean burn the HP and torque are not wasted so you actually need less throttle to do the same job, same amount of power needed at any given situation. Profile of the plate supports a more even fuel delivery.


Hope that makes no sense because that the best i can explain it ask rick or jim they are better at explaining in clear terms

yeah it makes sence, to the extent of usign less throttle to do same work. lets teach me quick, does the fuel plate change the fuel curve and sliding the afc change the amount, or what do they do exactly?

Sliding the plate forward changes the amount of rack travel to a point, the way the fuel plate is cut changes the fuel curve, too much rack travel will actually cost you power, what I mean is people think full forward is the best....not so, I've proved on the dyno that too much plate cost you power but some people just don't get it. Sliding the AFC increases the no boost fuel.....when you initally hit the throttle....hince more smoke on the start before boost comes up.

I think stock plates are fine full forward, it's the ones that are cut deep were this becomes too far.

also what is a good tranny for the price, i'm looking at the ats tranny cuz its around a 1000 cheaper than the dtt?

If your transmission will hold it halfway between stock position and full foward is a good place to start.

Just remember price and product tend to go hand in hand guys here praise both trannys ATS and DTT so its your call, i have heard that DTT though does a few different things with thiers.

With the 10 like said above start at 1/2 way and start sliding forward, i started mine at 2/3s and ended about 3/4, seemed about where it worked the best full forward worked fine too but there was alot of wasted fuel/ soot and it didnt pull as hard.
