Question TrueTrac front install question

I am adding a true trac to the front to make both axles LSD. I have a new dial indicator and the shim and seal kit. Anything else I will need before I start? The unit come with pretty good directions, but if any of you have installed one of these and can add any other thoughts or parts that may be needed would be great. Have front axle on jack stand and front wheels off. Draining front diff.Update well so far I had to add a 3/4 impact as my heavy duty 1/2 at 550 lb was to weak. I also had to buy a quality gear puller. I have it apart. It is going to take some time to get the shims and backlash right. This is a medium skill level job. Taking a break for food and will go at it more. Thank goodness for my friend that has been a machinist for 30 years to understand some of the terms.

Whats the cost on the LSD?? IIRC the OEM locker is only $500ish.

Did not want the power wagon electric. I wanted a LSD because of the power and torque of the diesel engine. With the new tools I am at 900 bucks so far. Lucky I had a press already.

Well I am down to torque the pinion. I need a 3/4 size torque wrench. They are not cheap and cost more than the diff. Any places rent them or is there a good cheaper resource for buying one?

i thought i had read a right up on changing lockers that you did not have to touch the pinion because you are using same gears

The direction state that it is required and may need shimming. All I can do is follow the direction and the service manual. The torque is higher than any of the 1/2" wrenches that I have. I barely got away with the 1/2" on the ring gear bolts. They are hardened. I am not going to all this to blow up more parts. I just want it to last.

Lightbulb 9.25 AAM Complete

So after trial and error. The easiest way to get the shims right on the diff is to measure the original unit with a table mount micrometer. You measure bearing to bearing. Then you only have to deal with the pinion and backlash and contact area (easy). I have a friend with a 2005 and when he get the parts I am going to help him. We will take pictures on the next one and show the measuring and such to make it easy. I like this diff when you punch the throttle the steering gets stiff and the truck wants to go straight, let off it feels like it not in 4x4. No clunks only a little wheel hop on harder surface under acceleration.

I just don't know if I would like that over a elocker. My experience with LSD's, while a TT and OEM AAM are among the best, is that when you really need it there won't be any assistance.
