Of course it slips. That's what automatic transmissions do. That's why you can sit at a stop light with it still in gear. ;D Try that with 6 shooter!! ;D

For one thing, GM owns Allison. Why would GM allow their transmission to be put behind the Cummins? They would then lose any competitive advantage that having the Allison name gives them. Sorta like if GM put the Cummins in their trucks, a lot of people would flock to them from Dodge for various reasons.
The 48RE is a decent tranny... but like the Allison's first year or so, there were some teething problems that were cured with software updates. I expect this will be no different in the case of the 48RE. Mine does some odd things now and then but it doesn't slip and it generally works very well. It's lightyears better than the POS in my old '96.

You must mean "in a Dodge" because the Allison is avaliable behind a Cummins in LOTS of applications.

Yeah, but Ford owns GM....and of course Cummins. That's why in 2007 Ford is going to release the F-250 and F-350 trucks with an available Cummins engine and Allison transmission. It will be the ultimate truck. The best of all worlds. ;D ;D ;D

From the official website about Ford owning Cummins.

Their server seems to be down at the moment though so you may have problems connecting.
