Truck running hot after new water pump?

A few weeks ago I noticed my truck leaking antifreeze out of the weep hole on the water pump, it was actually pouring out of it, and all around it. After the truck idled for a minute it slowed to a steady drip. I asked around and heard if if it's leaking out the hole that means the pump is going bad. After driving it to my friends wedding the pulley on the pump started making a lot of noise, so I knew the pump was bad. Also the engine was running a little hotter than normal.
Today I installed the new pump and flushed the coolant and refilled with mopar coolant. While driving it the temp gauge started creeping a little past 200 (half way mark). The truck never ran that hot ever until the pump started going out. Could there be air in the cooling system causing this problem? Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks

How do you remove the air in in the system? I have read where guys are taking off the T-stat and pouring coolant straight into the block. Would that work?

I belive if you remove the fitting on the right side of the head next to the valvecover, the one plug that is smaller than the rest on the right side, and fill with antifreeze from there will remove any air pocket in the block.

Sounds stupid but make sure the serpentine belt is on correctly. This is the only vehicle that I have ever owned that does not have a diagram under the hood for the serp belt. I have read it can be put on wrong...and fit.

I had the same issue a few months ago. Coolant dripping out of the weep hole. Replace the water pump and t-stat. Then after driving on the highway I noticed it ran hotter at highway speeds than it did at idle. Was up around 210 deg when doing 65mpg but as soon as I slowed down it would drop to 185-190 within 20 secs. Well I had a bubble in the system. Burped the bubble out and the truck temps are back to normal. Sounds like you either have air in your system or a slightly higher t-stat opening set point.

Since I have a slight incline in my drive way, I parked on it after filling, left the rad cap off, heater set to high and let gravity work the air out. Seemed to get all the air out....topped it and have been good...

You can remove one of the plugs on the head on the passenger side or I removed the heater core hose that comes off the head and filled through the rad cap until coolant came out the fitting where I removed the hose.
