Fuel level sending units have sometimes fallen apart and reading 1/4 tank when it is actually empty. Try putting some fuel in.

I agree fuel level sensors are notorious for being off 1/4 tank. Try putting 5 gallons in tank then bump starter a few times until you have fuel coming out the overflow valve in injection pump. Tighten that up then loosen a few injectors lines until you see fuel there.

Thanks for the tip. I've never been so happy to be out of fuel in my life. 5 gallon in the tank 1/2 gallon all over everywhere and she rattled to life.

Be careful. Do that more than once and you will be replacing that VP. They dont do well running on no fuel.

I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!

Had the same thing happen to me, I was lucky enough to roll into a fuel station though. Filled it up and immediately logged onto DTR when I got home. I took my bed off, and after going round and round with the dealer about a replacement decided to clean it and check the resistance. I was able to get the resistance levels from the dealer. Made sure the contacts had good connection all the way through the sweep before I re installed it. It works fine now, although I must admit I very rarely if ever let it get much below 1/3 of a tank now.

There is supposed to be a replacement sending unit, and not the whole dang canister, but from what I have found it depends on the dealer in your area for the oem sender replacement. I have seen aftermarket sets but I think you have to get a separate gauge. Kind of a drag to say the least.

You can try searching sending unit. you might actually be able to find a part number. Seems to me I found it after I fixed mine.

MANY aftermarket replacements. More reading than you will want to do. All you have to do is pick something (other than the in-dank replacement) AND get gauges. Perhaps gauges and a light is better because you can't watch gauges all the time and a light would call attention.

I've got the stock p.n for the fuel gauge sending unit around here somewhere. I assume thats what you are looking for? If so,I'll find it and post. Nate
