truck died

Our 94 5spd just quit has we were pulling into a parking lot. The truck has run fine previously. We have fuel to the injection pump but not out. Everything prior to the pump seems to be in working order.

1) Do these pumps just quit with no prior problems?

2) does anyone have a diagram of the injection pump and it's internals. I am wondering if the lever that the fuel shut off Solenoid hooks up to came off in the pump.

The truck has 500,000 miles on it.

thanks for the help.

Did you check the fuel shut off solenoid? It is right before the Inj Pump. If the relay goes bad, it can just shut off your fuel.

thanks for the reply, fuel shut off solenoid was the first thing we checked. I wondering if the lever that the solenoid hooks up to has come off inside the injection pump. everything on the outside looks good.

Just for the heck of it. Try putting the throttle all the way to the floor. I hear if you have air this will help to get it started. "/

Pull your AFC and fuel plate out of the pump, as well as removing the shut off solenoid. Look inside the pump, with the lever up, when you move the throttle, you should be able to see the rack move back and forth. Make sure its the rack your are looking at, not the gov arm. If in doubt, press the shut off lever down, and you should see the rack come back several mm.

If that checks out, spin the engine over by hand, watching the flyweights in the governor housing. If you are turning over the engine and they are not moving, most likely the gear has come loose on the shaft and is spinning. Less likely, one of the gears in the gear train could have broken, but I'd expect to hear about an oil leak under the truck from that.
