Truck is in the body shop
Bit the bullet on this finally and took my 1996 Ram to the body shop my dad's friend owns.
He is doing new rockers, cab corners, and front fenders, fixing the holes in the roof from the CB antenna and visor, fixing the door bottoms, and painting the whole truck top-to-bottom. I am having all the rub strips, stripes, logos, and emblems removed too.
I love this truck, and the way I figure, for what I paid for it, i can put some money into fixing the body so it looks as good as it runs and drives.
I cant wait to get it back in a few weeks. Lets here it for another 230k miles!

Road salt turns everything to a mess. my wife's durango looks about like A-Bomb's truck, and it's a '99. My truck had the bed refinished before i bought it, the paint is a little orange-peelish. rockers are starting to go, too.
keep washing, is about all ya can do to stop it.

Good choice fixing up your second gen truck. I have plans to do the same eventually with my 96. I just think even if I have to spend 5-6K on the body, it's better than 40k for a new one. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures when it's done.

I can do my own body/paint so it won't be nearly as expensive for me. It's just trying to find time to do it. Of course I take care of my truck and it doesn't have rust on it yet. They use less harsh chemicals in winter on WA roads.

I got some good deals on parts, got two new front fenders $50 for the pair, inner and outer. Got a bed off a guy who bought it, had it painted white, then found out you cant put an 8' bed on a 6' truck. $300, rust free, fresh white paint.
My dad's friend runs the body shop, so he is gonna give me a good price, especially considering my dad has his son in class. I was quoted $1800 for cab corners, rockers inner and outer, fenders both sides, and fix the door bottoms, and paint the whole truck from the windows down. Now I have a new box, but I am getting the whole cab repainted including the roof (took off the visor). Should be $2k or less out the door.
If I posted progress pics it would just be me sitting at my desk at work and me selling off some Mitsubishi parts to pay for it
