Truck Advice
I am in the market for a new truck. About a year ago I sold my 05 cummins and bought a gas. Now I am looking for a diesel again. My wife wants me to get a new truck, but I think I want to find a low mileage 5.9. I am worried that the newer motors aren't going to perform as well as my 5.9 did. I am especially Leary of the the 2010. did they make drastic changes? Are my concerns justified? Have there been any maintenance or performance issues with the 6.7s? I like to keep things simple, to me more high tek bells and whistles means more things to go wrong.

I would do a search on this and other forums on the 6.7L Cummins. You will read both good and bad things about this engine. The real problem was the emission equipment on the early 7.5 model year trucks. I believe Dodge and Cummins have improve the software that controls the emissions and engine. I have a Sept built 07 model year 08 and I have had only one major issue with the truck. This was build up of soot in the Turbo, there is a TSB to the Dodge dealers on how to fix this. Since then no issues.
I love the 6 spd auto with the tow/haul mode and the exhaust brake, great for pulling my 5er. There is a rocker switch which you can manually select what max gear you want to be in. I normally set this at 4 gear in town than shift to 5/6 for interstate driving. I try to maintain 1800 to 2000 RPM range to prevent engine lugging.
My mileage for the truck is 12 to 13 in town hand calculated. When I am on the highway I normally get 10 to 11 mpg (pulling the 5er).
The Cummins engine is certified for the model year 2010 emissions, so no change to the power train for 2010.
