triple guage a pillar

hey guys just wanted to post my experiance. i have read several posts on the fit of a triple guage a pillar panel. i just got mine from mark craig at dppi the other day and i have to say the fit and texture and color were perfect. the guage panel looks great with the pricol guages. mark was great to deal with and best yet i had my guages and panel two days after i ordered them. i called today with some questions on the gauges concerning lighting and he awnsered my questions and even took the time to help me with some future exhaust and intake questions i had. i can not say enough about how good it was dealing with mark. so if any of you guys that have read posts about how the triple guage a pillar panels didnt fit well dont worry about it any more mark has one that fits well. sorry for the rant just wanted to tell you guys how good the service was.

Afternoon,

Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback for you.

Concerning the A pillar I wanted all the membership to know that this is NOT the first color matched A pillar that was built. Some of the other brand ones have warped and not done too well. This A pillar is built by the same folks that build all the Auto Meter mounts and they also build the SRT10 mount for Dodge. The material that is used is the same material from the OEM supplier to Dodge and it's very HD and color matched perfectly etc.

Thanks again,

Mark @ DPPI

You mentioned lighting. On mine the boost & pyro not very bright at night.
Was wondering if you experinced the same. My trany temp is nice & bright but the other two could be brighter. Not sure if I need a differnt bulb or not. ?

Kyle Graham,

The info I get from the manufacturer of all of the Auto Meter mounts as well as the 2003+ replacement mounts that we have/sell tells me that Pro Pods mounts are a similiar material but it is not the Revo Tech material specified by Dodge. Pro Pods used to be a sub contractor for Gauge Works but could not supply the parts as required by Auto Meter in the past. The thickness of the material is much thinner on the Pro Pods and the depth of how far the gauges stick out is much further too, The Gauge Works mount pulls the gauges back into the pillar as they are not a copy of the "stick on top of the factory pillar" design. So that makes the gauges farther inset into the pillar which alwasy looks nicer. This Gauge Works mount is a true redesign of the factory pillar, it even comes with a pan head stainless steel machine screw to use the factory attachment locations. Figured you'd want to know all the details.

Di-Pricol does have differnt bulbs available, but I would check how far the bulb sockets are pushed into the back of the gauge first. If they are not all the way in, the gauge will look dimmer than it should.

I've noticed the egt is dimmer of the three gauges I have in my Ram, but that is funny as it is the only gauge with 3 leads on it, one for each operation of the gauge.

I'd be interested to find out if there is anything to remedy it.

Should be 4 leads plus the two black wires for the bulb. The black and white wires in the 4-pin plug are for the LED illumination in the gauge and need to be connected with the proper polarity to work. The black wire in the 4-pin plug is actually dimmer +VDC and the white is connected to ground. If these are backwards the LED will not illuminate. Check that first, if it is connected correctly and you can see the LED doing its thing in the center of the gauge, the bulb in the bottom can be replaced with a brighter one.

Kyle,
The Propod did not fit my 04. The pod was designed for the 03. I actually spoke to Propod personally and they initially claimed they didn't know that Dodge had changed the A piller in 04. However, they eventually told me that "Guys are using black tape on the windshield to hide the edge" . NOT on my rig. I ended up getting a refund for the Propod AND the cost of a new factory cover/handle.

GreenZ,

Man what a mess that had to be! We do have the A pillars that are built to fit correctly if you want to give it another try, they are color match moulded out of the same material as the factory A pillar and use a nice polished SS machine screw to attach to the truck. Your factory A pillar is removed and not modified, you can save it for when you sell the truck if you want to remove the gauges and use them in the next truck etc.

Most folks don't know it but Gauge Works makes the SRT10 pillar for Dodge, so you know the quality is RIGHT!

Mark,
Thanks for the information. I will give Gauge Works a try.

The only problem w/ the A pillar tri pods that I have seen (I don't think i have seen Gauge Works yet) are that they all angle the gauges to the right of the A post, blocking more of the windshield which then increases the already very large blind spot that Dodge designed into the A-post. The design gives the truck a great appearance but it is more visually obstructive than the other makes. So, when you add a gauge pod, you lose even more visibility.

I wish someone would design a pod which places guages slightly to the left, then angled toward the driver, rather than to the right, blocking more of the view.

GreenZ,

If the the Proparts pillar is used as a cover as intended over the original pillar they fit very well with no visual problem around the window. We have insrtructions on our website for the pillar gauge installations that explain how to install these. http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/gauges Maybe this will help.
