so I went to the dealership to get the cold idle enabled today and they were like sure no prob. so I jacked around there for like 45 min. and when they got done I got in the truck and couldn't get it to work. So I thought well maybe I'll just drive it down the road a minute and see if it just has to get up to speed before it will start working. well NO so I go back (like ten mins has elapsed since I walked out the door) so I go inside and it takes 5 mins to find someone in this joint who even rembers me! so finally the *** service manager comes up and I explain the whole procedure like I had before and he's like ok so then looks up the deal ends up I watch him plug in the machine and enter the stuff himself. These guys had no idea what was happening or how it worked!! so I get back in and try it again and its still not working so I decide f@$% it I will wait and see if it only works when the engine is cool so now I am just waiting to see if it works at all.

Any way sorry the rant was soo long but can any of you guys who have had this done tell me if this deal is temp. spec. or if the engine has to be cold or what so I can figure out if I get to go on another rant to the dealer??

Doesn't matter what the temperature is. If they enable it properly then you'll be able to turn it on whether it's at -40 or +40! I had to go back and have them re-enable it on mine too.

Are you talking about the high idle fature thru the curise controll, or the cold weather warm up feature? The cold weather one will only work when the ambient temp is below 35 degrees F, and the coolant temp is below 120 degrees F. And only if the veh is in park or N and the service brake is not depressed. The other one (works off the cruise control) has no temp range.

From whayt I've read its downloaded then has to be ENABLED.A lot of folks forgot to ENABLE IT! Its auto trans only.If theuy can't figure out how to ENABLE IT tell them to call STAR while you wait and they will WALK THEM THROUGH IT.

I had tried to have mine done at lithia dodge in grapevine. Course they didn't accompish the mission but I will get to them again tommorrow and make sure that it works then I will update again and let you know. Any way thanks for the help.

It would help a great deal if you mentioned what year truck you have and engine/trans too. 03's have the ancient electronics and cannot be programmed for the high idle feature, however you can get a cold weather idle enabled. The high idle uses the cruise switches, the cold weather uses inputs from the cts, ats to determine if it needs to go into this mode. The only time I've ever had it work on my 01 was when I was in Idaho last year and it was -15 in the morning. Even at that temp if I plugged in the block heater it would not go into the cold idle, only one night when I didn't plug it in. It has to be alot colder than 50 degrees before it works.

His profile says year 2004 / 2500/ 600. It should definately work through your cruise control. Turn on and use the accelerate button to increase idle. If not go back or to a different dealer if they can't figure it out.

The 03s have the COLD 1000 rpm and it does NOT need to be enabled or turned on.Its already there and it works even here in mid Ga.Itjust has to be cold enough.The FAST idle through the cruise system is on 04 up automatic trucks and has to be programed and enabled before it works.

I had to have TSB 18-037-04 performed in order for the high idle function to be enabled. They tried it without the flash and it wouldn't work.

My manual high idle feature was done at the same time as the 034 TSB at Allen Samuels Dodge on Loop 820 in Fort Worth, works great.

That's funny Allen Samuels Alliance told me they tried to enable it on my 600 when I had the 037 flash done, but it "wouldn't take".

Are ther any techs in the DFW area on this board? I need to find a service dept I can trust.

TXHawg, Give the Allen Samuels on Loop 820 a shot at it. Worked for me!
