Transmission shops in Raleigh, NC Area

Hi folks,

My truck has about 80,000 miles on the original transmission. No modifications and never had any issues with the transmission. About 20,000 of those miles have been towing a 30' 5th wheel camper of about 11,000 lbs.

On the way home Friday night in a straight stretch of road, slightly downhill with very slight throttle my truck threw a P1740 code. I have reset the code and it has not returned.

Today I think I will drop the pan and change the fluid. If I find a lot of debris then I know I need a rebuild. If the pan wear is normal, then I'm not sure what to do as the transmission is acting fine.

But I am planning a 7,000 mile trip in late June and I don't want to have problems on the road.

1. What kind of mileage are folks getting out of the 48RE and 5.9 engine with moderate towing and no mods. I had expected a rebuild before 100,000 miles. Is 80,000 miles about normal?

2. Can anyone recommend a good transmission shop in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex NC area. I can go to the dealer but would rather support a local guy.

3. What cost can I expect for a stock rebuild?

Thanks,
Bobby

i could not find one when i was stuck in raliegh. i drove all the way down to Charelston SC. Really good mechanic down their, his name is John and he only works on diesle trucks. He is also a ATS dealer. His shop is called "performance diesle". if you go to ATS website you can look him up by the dealers link. he installed my Stage 4 ATS transmission when my dodge one took a crap! he also can rebuild them for you! Good luck
