transmission issues

My problems first started when I changed settings on my smarty from 7 to 1. I dont run my truck hard and when I was runing on #7 (for about 5kmiles) i had no problems shifting. About a week after I turned it down i started to get some weird shifting. It would hold 1st too long (light throttle would go to 2700rpm) then go second, flair up about 300rpm then settle in 3rd and shift into od fine. I dropped the pan to look in there and get a good look at the fluid and the fluid looked a little dirty. I put it back together leveled the fluid and went to stock on the smarty. I also had 2 codes, 1st one had no explanation, second said "gov pressure over 3psi while in gear at 0mph". I cant remember the codes now, but im starting in 2nd or 3rd now, and cant get into 1st.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like you have a bad governor pressure solenoid and/or transducer. Get ready to drop the pan again! Also while you are in there go ahead and adjust the bands too, it'll help make it last.

Might check with the Smarty guys but this is the diagnostics for P0602 - I think I've heard it is caused by the Smarty.

Symptom:
P0602-CHECKSUM ERROR
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0602-CHECKSUM ERROR
When Monitored: While the ignition is on.
Set Condition: A deviation between the ECM memory and a stored calibration.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
FLASH ECM
ECM
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 Using the DRBIIIt, reflash the ECM with the proper calibration for the particular
truck.
Is the flash successful?
All
Yes ! Repair complete.
No ! Go To 2
2 With the DRBIIIt, read DTCs.
Did P0602 set after the reflash?
All
Yes ! Replace the ECM.
No ! Test Complete.
186
DRIVEABILITY - DIESEL

The other two codes could be caused by either the governor pressure solenoid sticking or the governor pressure transducer reading the wrong pressure. Either way they are mounted in the valve body. I always replace both. Not real expensive ( not cheap either ) but when I have to drop the pan, I don't want to do it twice! They are both prone to failure so I explain to my customers it is in their best interest. most understand. The ones that don't understand do when they come back within the next year and have to pay the labor all over again. Sorry, I'll catch heck for this, but I don't show mercy on the "I told you so's! " ! They pay diagnostics and everything again! It may be worth a look with a scanner, but I'll bet this will fix your trouble.

IM going to try and replace the Gov pressure sensor and Gov pressure selonoid today and see if that helps.

Any tips for changing these?

Not really. Try to keep everything clean. I think you need a 7/16 socket and a T25 torx to get the little housing off of the valve body that they go into. It looks a little hard at first glance, but nothing really to it. Nothing is going to fly apart or anything! Lube the o-rings on the new parts before putting them in the housing. Good Luck!

Thanks guys!

I got it back together and it shifts like new again. It only took about 30min and cost about $150 with the sensor, selonoid, filter, and fluid.

this is the housing that the seloniod and sensor sit in. The cover to the left holds the them in place. Lifting on the cover gently will let you remove the pieces. I think its eaiser to take the filter off first and youll see this housing right in the middle on the passenger side.
