Hey All! I have posted here before. I was the one who's truck was in the shop 3 times for the tranny. First let me explain what is going on. Last night while driving down the highway at about 70 MPH, the RPM's where at 2,000, when going to pass another vehicle I pressed down on the accelerator to get going. The truck would never drop down a gear to get going, it just gradually sped up. I even pressed the accelerator to the floor board and it never dropped down a gear. This is at 70 MPH with about 2,000 RPM. When I get down to about 60 MPH and press on the Accelerator it will drop down a gear and get moving. The truck just does not perform like the way I bought it. I am thinking they may need to reprogram the computer? I plan on taking it back to where I bought it from instead of the local dealership here, which I'm not to happy with. What do you all think is the problem? And why do you all think it is performing this way?

That's the way these trannys are supposed to work. Mine's the same way on the highway. Kind of irritating but just take it out of OD manually and it will kick down....

That is the way mine is also. Do you really need it to kickdown if you are already at 2000 rpm and 70mph. mine just spools up and moves out. I don't think you have a major problem at all, but that is just my opinion.

Mine does the same thing I would call it normal.

If OD is 2000 rpm and 70 mph then a drop to third gear would be approximately 2600 rpm for the same speed. At that rpm you are falling off the torque curve and running out of rpm.

As the others have mentioned....no downshift......that's normal.

yes I too keep reminding myself it's a 6 cyl. diesel. There's been a few learning curves in this respect for me. This is my 1st diesel... my last truck was an '04 almost identical to this one except it had the Hemi and they sure are completely different animals under power. The Hemi tranny was buttery smooth compared to this CTD and would shift at about 6000rpm pegged... kick 'er down and she'd scream nearly anytime u wanted. $$$ slurp. I luv the power this CTD makes at such a low rpm, without having to kick-down and guzzle more fuel. My wish is that there was at least one more taller top gear for hwy cruisin'. Does it really need to rev at 2000rpm to maintain 70mph? I can hold 4th gear/TC locked at about 40 mph and then accelerate, up a 10% grade, so why are we still in the same gear at 70 or 80 mph I wonder?
