i have a 1991 3/4 ton 4x4 truck. it currently has an automatic tranny and i was wondering if a getrag out of a 2 wheel drive 1989 truck could be bolted in or if it has to be a 4x4 tranny. would greatly appreciate the help

Tailhousing is different. It takes a good bit of money to switch a 2wdtranny to 4wd Ive heard.

What,s wrong with the automatic? I have spent about two grand on mine and wouldn't trade it for a hundred manual trannies.

i picked up the entire 4x4 for $400. motor has 386000 miles but runs perfect. transmission was overheating like crazy. it seems the canister on the passenger side of the block is a tranny cooler. apparantly it was rusted out so i had a lot of water and a little oil in the tranny. i got that fixed and it shifts first and second good but thats it. took it in for an esimate and was told it could be built much "stouter" than factory with a one year warrant for $1300. i was looking to do a p- pump conversion ($$$$) and basicly run a duallie with 35" the whole way around and make around 450hp.
