Transfer case ?

The transfer case in my 90 is sounding like its coming apart inside it.. dont make any noise till your up to 30 mph.. at first I thought it were the double cardan joint, going bad.. Thats what the sound is. Any Idea whats going on with it ? I know it has to come out and ive been on a search for one already.. And I have another case off of a T-400 but not sure if its a 203, or 205, would that go in its place ?

205

have you drained any oil out to check for metal, ive seen the output rear bearings fail, thats a simple fix, you can listen to the noise with the rear end jacked off the ground, using a ratchet extension, or long metal rod, listen front to rear for suspect failure locale.

I have an NP205 for sale from a '91 automatic. It works perfectly. $250.

Took off front driveshaft, drove it... Still did it, take off rear shaft, find bad u joint, replace it and the noise went from 30mph to 40mph but still there but not as bad.. How Do I check the rear output bearing ? it sounds like a bearing, not gear problem...

rr output

remove the shaft, then the yoke, a few bolts hold the rear bearing retainer on,(rear housing) with speedo wire removed, tap lightly on housing and it will slip back for removal, revealing bearing, clean and inspect for damage, if its bad, it will be obvious.
