203 .....???
From:
http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/tranfer_case.htm
"The NV241HD, an option on Ram 2500's and standard on Ram 3500's built after 1998, has a stronger case and wider drive chain to better withstand the shock of snow plow service, a PTO cover and drive gear, and an extra bearing to support the thrust to the main shaft created by a PTO adapter."
Early versions are actually stamped DHD, which is the HD. Is possible the tc is a 241 ld on a 2500.
Look at the tag on the tc, only way to know.

Yep- the New Process 203 was a cast iron, chain driven, full time transfer case. Strong, not as strong as the 205, and heavy. Certainly not used by Dodge in any of their newer stuff. Definitely used in the 70's.

nevermind the transfer case the guy has is a 241dhd. would that be the correct one for a 2500 with the 6 speed? i would think the high output with a 6 speed would have a dhd not a dld right?

You need to look on the tag. On my 94, it also says the transfer case number and type on a label under the hood. There are some subtle differences, and they aren't just bolt in replacements- you either need the correct case, or be ready to swap some parts. When I hunted for a case for mine, I needed the exact number off the case (not 241, but the actual case number). For my 94 there were about 20 applications of the 241 to choose from, depending on the number.
According to www.car-parts.com, the dld and dhd were both used in 2001's with the manual transmission.

You can use either one.
I cracked my 241 DLD twice.
After much searching I found that the DLD was used in 2500s up to a certain year. The DHD was used in the 3500s.
There were cracking issues reported with guys that were using their trucks for plowing snow.
I use my truck to push my boat up a hill with the front end. Lot's of twisting and torque with the front axles locked up (on asphalt).
The DHD was slightly beefier inside, not the gears or bearings but the housing itself. I confirmed this with a design engineer from Spicer (New Process).
I bought a DHD from a place called Transfer Case Express in San Francisco.
I have not had an issue since.
I took my DLD apart and welded the cracks and then reinforced the areas that seemed to be weak. I have it on the shelf in case I ever need to swap it out.
I don't know what 20 different versions somebody is talking about.
There was not a single difference when it came to swapping them, same everything. The new one has a PTO cover on it.
I have a PDF about determining which transfer case you have along with an application matrix for various vehicles. I'll try to insert it.

For my 1994, there were 27 different identification numbers used, for the 241. My tag number was one of those identification numbers.
