Transfer case leak, where is it coming from?
On my 2001 Ram 2500 SB with the 6 speed, it appears the transfer case is leaking. I cannot reall tell were it is coming from though.
If your looking at the rear of the transfer case, the right side seems to have some tranny fluid drips on it. Only on the backside of the case. There is some residue on the case. Left side looks dry as well as frontside. .
There is some kind of housing, maybe the tailhousing that is bolted on the case. This looks like the possible culprit? Common problem? It looks like its leaking from the top, so it is hard to tell. Any other seals or gaskets up there?
Possibly the input shaft seal?
Output shaft looks fine.
What needs to be done to take off that tailhousing? Remove driveshaft?
Thanks

easy to remove rear drive shaft. just unbolt the rear u- joint and you can pull the entire shaft right out. as far a droping the tail housing i would drop the entire case. Alot easier to check over and not that hard to do. Just keep the vacuum hoses in order and you'll be fine. The hardest part for me was the cross bracing underneath.
