Just a question, has anyone any info on how to check the fluid level, and if it were low or I just wanted to replace it how do you check it, also what fluid goes in it?

The book says 4 pints of ATF+4, but I've read where guys said that it takes 2.5 quarts.<br><br>Crawl underneath and look at the back of it, I seem to recall there are a couple of plugs, one at the bottom for draining and one a few inches higher to fill it.

Somewhere I seem to remember reading that the fluid level in the TC is supposed to be at the top bolt. Top bolt of what and where? If that is so, is that higher than the fill plug? If it higher than the fill plug, how does one get oil in that high?

Stan, unless gravity has changed I don't think the fill hole can be lower than the level (Ummm, unless its a Mercruiser outdrive...) - some of those you have fill from the bottom up; then again, you stop pumping when it starts making a mess at the top hole.<br><br>Something is telling me that you are you thinking of the transmission and its PTO cover/fill holes? I think you pull a bolt and don't remove the PTO cover/gasket. I may be an old pro at this Saturday afternoon.<br><br>I dunno, I was underneath her yesterday measuring the muffler inlet/outlet and looking for body plugs (I have them btw) and only spent a little bit looking at the rusty hardware under there and thats when I looked at the transfer case. <br><br>FYI, my muffler has a 3 1/2&quot; diameter inlet and outlet. That 4&quot; tailpipe stuff you hear about is only because the tail pipe is expanded from 3.5 to 4&quot; after the muffler clamp. I let my next door neighbor talk me out of the straightpipe, but she may not win the dynomax trial. <br><br>Stan, I really missed those pics of you hanging over the side looking for noises.......
