put the probe in the hot line, dieselmanor.com has lines with the coupler already installed, and I have heard that the double deep pans can tax the cooling system due to the extra fluid, but there are others that will argue it, did they say what problems are coming up?

If you're putting on a Mag-Hytec pan, there's a port on the pan for a trans temp sensor (that's probably where I'll put mine once I get around to doing a temp gauge).

I'm going to be putting a MH pad on my '06 with the 48RE trans. I think I'm going to go for the regular pan though, not the Double Deep one, because I don't really want the tranny pan to hang down 2" below the frame rails. We've got a leveling kit and 35's on the truck, and it's strictly a road vehicle (no offroading), so clearance really shouldn't be an issue, but the Jeeper in my just isn't really comfortable with the trans pan hanging down that far anyway.

Well I have never heard of the "too much oil" problem and I do know there are an awful lot of them in service.

I'm not sure what they are calling a plug vs probe. If you are using, for example, Autometer gauges you can see their temp probe on their web sight www.autometer.com. They are actually a thermister or temperature variable resistor. They change resistance with changing temp. That is the same device, constructed differently, used by DC in the valve body of the trans. If they are using a different device that connects to the circuit on the Thermister in the valve body, then maybe thats what they are talking about.

Hey Mega3500 I have the double deep pan on my 06 and it doesn't hang down below the frame rails at all. As a matter of fact, if you get down on your knees and look underneath the truck, you can't see the double-deep pan until you crank your head around and look UP at the tranny.

I haven't heard of any problems with the mag hytec double deep pans, and Dharris is right-there are an awful lot of them around. If your tranny fluid got REALLY REALLY hot, then I could see the extra volume of fluid taxing the cooling system (because it's got 4 extra quarts to cool down), but the reason you want the 4 extra quarts in the first place is that the 4 quarts represents extra liquid mass that has to be HEATED up in order to raise the temp of the tranny fluid altogether (that is, it's harder to get the tranny hot in the first place).

The other thing I have read is that the powder coating acts as in insulation for the heat, which I can totally see, so when I ordered a pan I went with the PML pan.

Thanks for the feedback Fitz. I found a pic of the DD pan on here in an older thread, on an '03 I think it was, and it didn't look like it hung down below the frame rails in the pic, but I could have sworn when I was eyeballing my truck with a tape measure the other day that anything taller than 4" was going to be below the frame rails, and the DD pan is nearly 6", but I guess I was looking at things wrong somehow. Is yours a 2wd or 4wd? Not that it should make any difference, but the pic I saw was on a 2wd and mine is 4wd.
