Anyone have reccomendations for a reliable / knowledgable transmission shop in the Hampton Roads Va. area? My auto has 110k on it and is in serous need for rebuild / tune-up. On the same note...anyone have experience with the ATS performance transmission w/out the added triple loc TC?

I couldn't find one around here that I trusted. I did use a "franchise" shop in NNews for a Chevy van about 5 years ago, but they wouldn't have been my choice for a Ram tranny upgrade. I'm going to drive to Tenn. for a DTT rebuild in a couple of weeks. The shop there was the closest one that Bill K. approved as a "knowledgeable, qualified, and competent" shop. When I called ATS for their suggestion, they said that they didn't have anyone in the area that they had used or knew about. They told me that I could pick a shop, and they would instruct the mechanic over the phone or by fax. I wasn't quite as comfortable with that, so I'll drive.

I do know of a guy who'd do a great job on an ATS rebuild, but he moved from NNews to MO. Too far; may as well drive on to Denver and use the main shop.

I think I know the guy that moved to Mo. In fact, he is going to put a clutch in my truck the second week in March. Yes, I will drive that far to get good service.

I have a guy here locally (just outside of Wakefield) that does an excellent job on Chrysler auto trans. He works out of his own shop at the house when he feels like it but he is the only one I trust around here with a Chrysler auto trans. He has done two for me and several for friends and works on a friends trans in a 650 hp drag Duster.

If interested, send me a PM and I will send you his number. You can call and talk to him yourself and see if he is interested. Hunting season is over so he may be back in the shop.

Thanks for the reply, I was referred to the Tenn shop also from DTS and to a shop in NC (about 200 miles) by ATS. Trouble for me is the many $$$ for a rock solid tranny. Can't seem to convince myself yet that I need to go the extra mile in the rebuild...I know I would think it is worth it if I was broke down 6-7 hundred miles away on vacation on the side of the road w/ the wife, kids, dogs, and trailer! These local shops (nat'l chains) kill me...called one for price on a tranny service/tune-up he said can't tell you how much it is until after you pay the $40 for me to tell you how much is wrong with it! I just asked for a tune-up...never mentioned any problems.
Anyways, I used to live 3 miles from the guy in NN. He killed my KDP for me, unfortunately he moved shortly after I found out about him. Rammin'On I think.
