trans fluid question for 48re

got a problem that has me stumped. the maker of my vb (tony garcia)told me when I am ready to reinstall my trans to add 3 qts of sae 30 motor oil first and then add the atf +4. the guys from alto told me that the motor oil is a BIG no no. and tony also recommended to me to overfill the trans by at least 2 qts. what do you guys think of these suggestions??? I am doing the work my self for the most part and a lot of phone help from Tim Barber. I am worried about the oil getting a little to thick during the below freezing during the winter??

Wh..wh...whaaaat????? YOU might try that, I NEVER would. My builder told me which bottle of Valvoline and to fill it to the CORRECT level. If I remember right, over filling can cause foaming and spillage out the fill tube.

Is the 30W a break-in procedure?

Long-term, it sounds like a break-down procedure!

he said that is what he is running is the drag racing truck that he helped build? he said something along the line it adds a thicker film to all the parts.

Well, the 30W is diluted pretty good with the overfill, but I probably wouldn't experiment with it - seems like it'd change the line pressures and VB function (but for worse or better? )

Not seeing the benefit to thicker film - where are the extreme hydrodynamic journal pressures?

Sythetic 30W or dino?

Adding 30 wt oil to a auto transmission, I think not! Over filling can cause big problems too. BTW just because it will work in one drag racing truck does not mean it will work in your Dodge auto trans.

Most D.C. autos do better and less noise from the valve body and cold shift if overfilled some. There was a TSB or memo from engineering in 99 or 2000 about overfilling 47re by a qt.I run the auto in my 1998 about .5 or more over full .Have for years.Lots of drag racers futher use 5w30 or 10w30 motor oil in automatics. Its the same weight as ATF.Can't remember all the reasons for using it but I do remember that it won't harm one eaither.Theres got to be info out there stating reasons why to use etc.I don't remember the mixing ATF and motor oil.Best as I can remember reading was they used straight motor oil and no mixing.
