Automatic Transmission Identification

Transmission identification numbers are stamped on the driver side of the case flange just above the oil pan gasket (just below the TV lever). There will be a 9 digit part number, a space, a 4 digit build date, a spave, and a 4 digit serial number.

Auto Trans code breaks down like this:

4 = 4 forward speeds
6 = strength of trans. (1-9, higher number, stronger trans.)
R = Rear wheel drive
H=Hydraulic controlled, E = Electronic controlled shift

you will not need the whole ammount if you are just dropping the pan. the rest will stay in the torque converter. remember level ground, engine running, transmission in neutral, slowly pour in. check in N engine running warm.

I filled it out but it doesn't come up when I post. what am I doing wrong in that department. the truck is a 1998 2500 4x4 long bed quad cab 12 valve automatic. the real question is. Did I waste my money on the B&M deep pan or does it really hold more fluid? It looks the same

You are most likely filling in your profile but not your signature.

i know when i got my tranny from Goerend i ordered it with a MagHytech single deep pan..... it is deeper than a stock pan.... did you set the two pans side by side and look at them? does the B&M have cooling fins on it? they help some..... as for fluid capacity honestly i can't rember the refill after a filter change but as stated above 6.5qts sounds a little high... i want to say 5or so...... but when i installed my new tranny it took 19.5qts before it was full on the stick..... but that was bone dry...... have checked it numerious times and it's still dead on......
