Tranny trouble

I'm trying to track down an annoying problem with my tranny which is possibly being caused by the cable from the APPS to the tranny. This cable runs through a guide which is attached to a bracket at the rear of the engine on the drivers side. The bracket is "stepped" with the guide attached to the step part. What I need to know is, should the step be up with the cable over the top of the bracket or, should the step be down with the cable underneath the bracket. Somebody PLEASE have a look under the hood and tell me what you see
