Tranny Temp Sensor
What is the resistance of the stock tranny temp sensor on the 94-95 trucks? I want to replace the sensor with a resistor and put the sensor from my aftermarket gauge in the port that the stock sensor was in.

I don't know what the resistance is, but if you don't get it right, your sensor won't be able to tell the PCM to shift into OD or to lock up the TCC. As far as running the T, I tried that further downthe line, and it doesen't work. The probe has to be right next to the flow of fluid, or it won't register the correct temp (especially the factory one, I lost OD and TCC until I was driving for about 15 minutes) . I had to rebend a new set of lines, and I just cut into the line and used a JIC fitting for both the factory and gauge senders.

On another note, apparantly there is a port on the side of the tranny (actually 3 of them, you want the middle one), you could just throw the probe in there. What I am doing is I have 2 senders, and I have one in the hot line, and am going to put the other in the cold line or port on the tranny, and have it wired into a 3-way switch so I can monitor everything. I plow, and it can get the tranny warmed up real quick (haven't hit a really dangerous level yet).
Anybody want to back up this info on the factory ports, though? Is it the middle one that you should use?

superstreet, the resistor to use is 700 ohms, but there is no reason to use one on the RH trans used from '94 to '96.
As recommended by Bill K I've been using the middle test port, passenger side without a problem. It's not recommended to use the test ports for temps on the later RE transmissions.

Thanks for the info. I'll put it in the test port. Just thought I could get rid of the stock sensor because I have had to replace it three times in six years.

Here is a pic of the passenger side of the Tranny. I have circled what I think are the test ports. Which is the best one to use? I am assuming the middle one is #2. I currently have a sender in the hot line, and want to put one in the tranny itself and have it wired into a 3 way switch. I plow, so the tranny gets quite a workout.

When I installed the sender in my first gen., the instructions said to use the front servo port or number three from the picture above. Just my two cents worth.

I went ahead and replaced the stock temp sensor with a 1,000 ohm resitor. And put the sensor for my gauge in the stock port. It works great, and I don't have to worry about replacing the stock sensor again.

Anybody know what size thread the port #2 is? I tried threading the autometer sender in, and it didn't want to go in, I don't want to strip the threads on the aluminum case.

The port is 1/8'' NPT, should be the same as your sender. I've heard others complain of their senders not want to screw in also, I had no problem on mine.
