Tranny shot (thanks Quad)

Finally after running the Quadzilla Adrenaline my transmission is totally gone. The only position on the gear selector that works is PARK. Got towed home by the kids Powerstroke. I'll never hear the end of that one. I found a guy close to rebuild it for about 2K. I told him what kind of HP I was at (guessing) and that In run the truck hard. He says not a problem. I kind of have mixed feelings about it, but he still says I get a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty. I made sure to tell him I dont want a tranny replacement at 1year and 1 day, still reassured me he could build it. So to end this tale, I took the truck to his shop last night. I looked him in the eye and told him I run the truck hard and he looked back at me and said "I build transmissions". Will keep you posted. He did say however, that he only uses billet converters and he built a tranny for as guy last year that hauls a 20k trailer every day. he did not flinch at all when I told him about my upgrades and so far that is where we are. I did find out thru the conversation, that he was a master tech at my local dodge dealer and informed me he knew full well what the Mighty Cummins in capable of.

My dad had his tranny in his 95 built by a local(Jay Egge) as well... he was iffy at first too. But if you ask him today hes glad he did... and so am I. The truck goes like a bat out of hell and the tranny holds up well. It saved him some cash too. I hope it works out the same for you.

Keep us posted!

its more expensive than what you have been quoted by your local guy but they have a great reputation and a 3 year warranty... http://www.goerend.com/transmissions.php

I called Dave, (or at least someone who answered the phone) and was ready to ship out a check, but was referred to this builder by a trusted friend, so I thought I would give him a chance. i will start either a VP44 or tranny fund so I will be prepared in either event.

Guess I should also add, It's not Quads fault, it's mine and my right foot. I knew it was just a matter if time. Just makes me feel better to have Quad share the blame

I think it's great. I'll put it to you like someone on here put it to some guy that smoked his transmission .

"You're Upset? Why? Think about it, you've got an engine with enough power to shell a transmission!! That's something to be proud of! Don't be upset, be impressed. Now go build up that tranny so you can do the same thing to the rear end " -Unknown

I would be thanking Quad for helping your truck put out some power.

Yes it was still the stocker. I knew (from reading this site almost cover to cover) that it was just a matter of time. 101k on the stocker.
Billet torque converter and the tranny guys recommendations on the rest. The only request I made from him was to let me bring Amsoil for the new internals.

I went with the local guy and wish i wouldnt have. He said that he builds the **** out of it and it would not slip and its better than some of the top tranny companies in the nation. Been back 5 times in a year for warranty work. ive got 3 other trannies for friends and family from goerend, not one problem AT ALL. Its all who you trust, but i know i wont go with the local guy again just to save a buck unless his name is dave goerend.

Ah, you might as well blame it on me, seems everything else is my fault anyways!

The funny part is that you just have no idea how much power that box has right now, wait until you get a tranny that is not self destructing while your foot is on the skinny pedal!

Yeah, I'm remember being amazed by difference the box made on my basically stock truck with a slipping torque converter... can't wait till I get a fully built tranny.

I had my tranny built by a local shop as well. Told them what I had planned for the truck and that I would be Sled Pulling with it. They said I would be fine with a Billet Tq Conv. and they had no problem standing behind it for a year. I have 9 hooks on it and it it working great!

Cost me $1800 total and they had the truck 3 Days. I'm very happy with it!
