Hi I'm a newbie here just found this site a couple of day's ago.
I have 56,500 on my CTD I just purchased recently. I purchased from a reputable local dealer it looks showroom new. I checked as much as I could and the dealer serviced this one completely. My question is how do I find a local transmission facility to service the tranny and adjust the bands. Nothing is wrong this truck drives out like a dream makes me proud. The 4.10 gear makes me think it will take some watching after and perhaps some mods to keep things right I will tow my boat maybe 10 times a year. the best I can figure the boat and trailer weigh about 6500 lbs with fuel and some gear. anything you vetrens can tell me about keeping up the truck up and the tranny good will be greatly appreciated. I hope to put a torque dog or similar power booster in the near future.

You can change the fluid yourself. If you don't want to, or want to group it with the band adjustment, find a shop by word of mouth in your area. I wouldn't trust any shop I couldn't get a good recommendation on from someone I trust. Just the nature of the business.

Where are you located? That would be helpful in case one of the members here is in your area and can contribute.
I have had my ASE certified buddy, who I trust, tell me that you need to change the tranny juice at least every 50K religously or you will pay for it down the road. Me, I upgraded to a high performance tranny, AND put Amsoil synthetic in it. I highly recommend synthetic, even if it isn't Amsoil. Synthetic has better heat transfer ability than Dino oil.

Thanks for the reply Stamey I am A pretty good wrench and do most of my own auto and cycle maintanace.
I can handle the trans oil change and after reading some of the threads on band adjust I think I can make those adjustments as well.
I am curious if the 410 gear and antislip diff were going to shorten the change intervals.
I run amsoil in the crankcase and will most likely put it in the tranny as well.

Never heard of a truck with a 4.10 needing tranny service any sooner than the 3.54. It's only a 15% difference in rotational speed in the tranny. It is a good idea to change the fluid now though, since you just got it and don't know the history.

Actually the 4.10s are beneficial for hte ATF service life since they give more mechanical advantage than the 3.55s.

I'd do the ATF and filter change, adjust the bands and go over the electrical connectors while you are down there.
