Tranny Recipe ?
Okay, trying to narrow down my tranny rebuild formula. My '96 long bed X Cab 4x4x w 4:10 gears. No jake brake. Mostly just a daily driver. Rarely pull over 5000 lbs. I want to bump my power up but probably will never go over 400 hp. I want to make it fun to drive plus more fuel efficient. So, for the tranny I plan a valve body, torque convertor, maybe a Suncoast heavy duty re-build kit, a BD pressure-loc, and maybe an auxilliary filter. I'll probably do the VB and pressure loc first, then as funds allow, drop the tranny and do the rebuild and convertor. I really keep hearing good things about Goerend convertors so i'll probably do the Goerend triple disk. He also seems to be the man on valve bodies. Also have studied Haisely machines site. What about their "HMR" valve bodies ? Does Haisely make them ? They are also the only site where i see "valve body assistant" would that work with any brand valve body ? Also will probably want to use Haiselys kick down lever. Anyway, I would love to hear pros and cons of different valve bodies, and convertors. Don't want to start a war, just make my decisions on pros and cons from real world users.
Also with good valve body and pressure-loc, how much more power can the stock convertor handle ?
Thanks !!

First off, don't do anything until you have the money to do everything IMHO. Just throwing in the VB could extend the life of your stocker, but whne it does let go could ruin the valve body along with it from debree.
If you go with a good valve body like ATS, Suncoast, BD, etc. you shouldn't need a pressurelock. That is the idea of the highly modified valve bodies.
I may be off, and many people probably have different reports, but I believe that about 335HP is all a stock lockup clutch will take even when pushed by a good VB. It's still a single disk.....

I know that Stefan at DTT was very confident in it holding 350rwhp. I've been pushing 398 for a few months now and just now started slipping in OD. Before that I was at 371. The VB was only setup for 350hp. I feel that with a good VB and maybe a new TC these trannies are very capable of holding 400rwhp.

Just like a cake is the sum of it's ingredients.... the auto trans is the sum of it's components. IMO, DTT has an excellent recipe for the Dodge auto trans. Very tasty!!

Is DTT's ~$975 HD convertor triple disk or single ? Their valve body and convertors are at least a little cheaper than Goerend, Suncoast, ATS.

Don't let the single disk fool you. They are very, very stout and are handling some serious power. Jim fulmer is putting down 873rwhp on his single disk DTT. That's all I'll say before I hurt somebody's feelings.

Well I talked to DTT and pretty much decided I'll go with their setup. TC / VB / Master Rebuild Kit . I think for the money this'll be a great setup.
