Tranny problem

WOn't shift from first until about 2000rpm. Have to let off throttle to get it too shift. Sometimes the tranny slips really bad. Pulled the pan to replace the filter today. Lots of sludge/metal grindings stuck to the magnet. Like excessive amounts. Truck has 145k on it. Changed filter and fluid. Now its worse. When I poured the fluid from the pan into a catch can, it had alot of suspended meatl in it and was really gnarly looking.
New tranny time? Rebuild? What do you guys think?
I need advice quick, I have to make a 900 mile trip next sunday, the 1st. So I gotta get it fixed asap. Taking it to a shop monday I hope. Should I have it rebuilt? Or have them put in a new one? I don't need to do any serious beefing up I think. I don't tow at all. I just have the Cummins cause IT'S THE COOLEST THING EVER IN THE WHOLW WIDE WORLD!!!

Been thinking about this one. My truck was stuck in first and shifted late when it would at all, turned out to be the transmission output speed sensor. $20 fix that neither the dealer or trans shop could figure out because no fault code. The metal particles stick to the magnetic sensor and make it not function. Earlier threads on DTR saved my tail and now truck shifts fine. However, the heavy metal particles and slipping sound like problems I can't help with.

Well, sent the truck to the shop. Tranny was toast. New torque conv, reverse band, 2nd gear band, sure shift kit, electronics, overdrive housing and piston, rebuild kit for tranny pump, filter, fluid= $3475.53.
Truck runs like new now. Doesn't hunt for od either. Tq conv quit locking and unlocking also. Shop did a heck of a job. And got it done in 3 days. Pm me if you're in the Grand Junction area and wanna know who I took it too. I'm very happy.
