tranny fluids

When I had my new torque converter installed, I asked my mechanic to replace my tranny fluid with amzoil. He told me that there is no synthetic that is compatible with the dodge tranny. Anyone know if this is really so?

Re:tranny fluids

Been using amsoil tranny fluid in mine for about 80k or so no problem whatsoever yet. I am sure other members will chime in with other comments.

Re:tranny fluids

I have been using Mobil 1 for about 10,000 miles with at least half of that towing my 9,000lb 5th wheel. No problems.

Re:tranny fluids

Do a search on it as this has been covered here many times.

Also there are people experimenting with different fluids. Of course this is for those with out Dodge warantees!!

Some are trying type F
Some are using hydralic fluid
And some are trying synthetic motor oil

Since mine is out of factory warantee , I use dex 111 with some mobil 1 motor oil mixes.
I have a Grand cherokee with 76,xxx miles and it is 50% mobil 1
Only issue is that it shifts a little earlier.

If you are in warantee use the stuff Dodge calls for!!

Re:tranny fluids

I'm running Amsoil in my trans... great stuff! Keeps the temp down and gives me smoothe shifts! ;D

Re:tranny fluids

Redline Oil's synthetic C+ATF meets Mopar's ATF+4 specs.

Re:tranny fluids

willems,i have been using amsoil for about 5k and it works great runs cooler, shifts fine and dodge does cover synthetics under the warranty ,they have no choice if the fluid meets industry standards.in fact i read a thread here where they had to redo some tranny fluid jobs after they had drained them when the owners raised heck with the factory. Your tranny guy is misinformed. hope this helps. ;D

Re:tranny fluids

Second the Redline suggestion. They make a high-temp version that's even better for towing. Use it in the transfer case of a 4x4, too.
